Many thanks to all that replied with regards to the best place for us to go in Turkey. We have decided Bizet would seem to suit us. The other half is up to being on a bus for about 30-45 minutes at the moment. We are going to wait another 4/6 weeks before going.
Is there plenty of short trips we could take, around about an hour to get there, that we could do by local transport or are there plent of tour companies we could book with? I understand there are plenty of boat trips that we are hoping he can do by then.
Anyone any commnets on the best hotel to try? Have looked at the Basri at the moment but recommendations would be much appreciated.

Bitez is a lovely, small and quiet resort - if you want a transfer time of 35-40 minutes, I would recommend organising a private transfer rather than the coach as if there are also drop-offs in Bodrum/Gumbet, it can take longer to get there.
As for the trips, there are loads of agencies in Bitez along the beach where you can book these. The village tour may suit you. It's also possible to visit the rest of the peninsula by dolmus (local transport) - go into Bodrum (well worth a visit) and from there, you can get a dolmus to everywhere on the peninsula.
The boat trips are great and you can book them everywhere in Bitez. You'll have a great time on them.
Sorry can't help with hotels as we have our own house over. We've just got back, having spent a fantastic 10 weeks there - only another 7 weeks until we return for another 10 weeks. Can't wait. We spend some days on the beach at Bitez - it's great.

You have made a very good choice in Bitez, it is a lovely resort. My parents have just come back from 2 weeks in Basri and they had a wonderful time. They have stayed there before and I stayed there a couple of times too and would defintely recommend it. The apartments are clean and specious, there is a lovely pool and a nice bar and it takes just a few minutes to walk to the beach and the bars and restaurants.
As Jakki says if you want to explore the Bodrum Peninsula then you can easily do this by bus and nowhere is more than about 30 minutes away from Bodrum.
