Any ideas on good golf holiday destinations??
I have for the very first time returned from a golf orientated hol in tenerife (las americas area) but found both the green fee's and beer costs a little on the expensive side. Spain seemed the obvious choice but an average of 70 euros a round even a 4 night stay adds up. Plus beer was 3 - 6 euros a bottle.
Criteria in order of rank
ESSENTIAL
1. Somewhere hot
2. Cheap currency compared to the £ (even if its not the euro)
3. cheaper green fees (was 70 euros per person per round) or if possible green fees included/hotel course cheap.
BONUS
4. good standard accom
5. some kind of nightlife
6. If staying in a hotel with golf course included would love a 18 hole course and a 9 hole
Thanks
I am afraid that £50 per round is pretty much par for the course ( excuse the pun ) for most of the med resorts Spain and Portugal. For some of the Championship courses even more.
Majorca Palma Nova area is good as there are 4 or 5 courses close by and you can get reasonable priced accommodation ( for instance half board at the Don Bigote a reasonable 3 star hotel £20.00 per night ), plenty of nightlife with a variety of drinks prices.
Marbella/Puerto Banus area still expensive and golf and for nightlife.
A nice area is Huelva for golf ( nearest airport Seville ), more unspoilt spanish area where the Spanish go on holiday but the nightlife not so good. Golf still £50 plus per round.
Portugal similar prices to Spain.
You might try booking a package with one of the many golf holiday companies for better value like the following:

I am afraid if you want golf in the Sun then the prices you have are pretty much the norm. Maybe try phoning one of the specialist golf holiday companies they maybe able to suggest areas not in the Eurozone that have good golf. I am thinking of Croatia/slovenia etc but you may not get the same sort of nightlife there and I dont know what the golf is like.
If I can help any further let me kow
Kind Regards

To get out to spain for the week should be around £150 for flights and we could get a villa for around £120 each(based on 4 sharing). Add in £50 a round plus cart hire your looking at £500 all in for 4 rounds. Add to that the strength of the pesky euro and it isn't that cheap to live in luxury in Spain/Portugal.
On the other hand Vegas costs around £600 for 4 nights with flights at a 4star. Golf fees are rediculous at most places ($25 after 2pm), golf under floodlight for $26, championship courses for $80 and you're laughing. We could easily do 27 holes a day/night. Plus the dollar is so weak currently, vegas is cheap even for the dollar and we get the famous nightlife to boot. We should get more golf, more luxury, more nightlife for less £££££.
I had no idea it was that cheap otherwise Vegas would have been done instead of Tenerife.
Well, everyone knows the best destination is Florida. It gets pricey quickly though.
Who did you book with icecream?
Hi Neil ... just in case you haven't spotted, this is an old topic which was revived earlier today. It appears that 'icecream' has not visited the site since posting in the thread 2 years ago. But you never know, he may return if still subscribed to it.
