Just a helpful bit of information.
A person who is unwell visiting the A & E department of a public hospital run by the Health Service Executive in Ireland currently is charged an A & E registration charge of €100.00 payable on the day and at the A & E desk when one registers. This does not include the costs of bed, etc if you are admitted etc. You can pay by Laser, Credit Card or cash. If you have an medical card issued by the Irish Department of Social Protection OR a letter from a local doctor (general practitioner) - there is NO charge(the average price for a visit to a general practitioner is about €50.00). I am not sure if the U.K. equivalent of the Irish Medical card is acceptable. Visit http://www.hse.ie for more information before you go!

Information on that page suggests that a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is not needed by UK residents visiting or working in Ireland, but I know of several cases where an EHIC has been requested by hospital staff. No charges have been made in those cases when the card was provided.

I've got a EHIC for this reason
Thanks for everyone's input. I rechecked this. If you have the EH1C card (European Health Insurance card) - you can visit the A & E department hospital and there is no registration charge as a European Citizen. This card is meant to be used if you are travelling in Europe.
The Republic of Ireland is in Europe.
hence the Euros I guess
