We've just returned from a fantastic week in Malta staying at the Topaz Hotel. We were lucky enough to get a self catering one bed apartment which although dated was cleaned.
We visited Valletta, Saluting Batter, War Museum, Fort Rinella, Mdina, Mellieha and just didn't have enough time to see everything.
In Vallette was found Cafe Jubilee just off a side street which is a 1920s bistro, lovely food and very good price. We also visited the Pub, Oliver Reed's last drinking place. Fort Rinella was amazing and well worth the visit.
Bugibba we found charming and found some good restaurants. Wood Hut on Tourist Street did lovely pizza, pasta, burgers and baguettes. Unfortunately we didn't get chance to have an evening meal there as we were closer to the square so went there during the day.
Villa Mara was good for food lamb shanks, bbq chicken, beef bragiolli and rabbit. Also Da Nicole on the corner had lovely food and just up there the Saint which was already very good. All the food we had was good, very reasonably priced.
Bars - Heritage and Lord Nelson, both very good and friendly atmosphere. Everything was very well priced from 1 euro for a pint, house wine (local Palazzo and very good) around 5 euro a bottle in the bar or restaurant.
The Dolmen Lido was very good, you pay 6 euro to get in but then you get two pools, lots of sun loungers and you can swim into the sea easily. Although no proper beach the beach they have built was fine, you just have to climb down short ladder to get in.
All in all fantastic time and can't wait to go back. In fact having visited Olu Deniz in Turkey, Zante, Bulgaria, Majorca, Spain, Kos, Rhodes this was the first time my partner agreed it would be nice to retire abroad!
Any questions feel free to ask.

we used to go in the lord nelson a few years ago had some brilliant times in there, was run by a different couple then.
Dagnabbit on your return would you please leave a review of the Primera here please:-
The Primera is very close to everything in Bugibba, only a minute a way from the square, O'Reillys a nice wee Irish pub just over the road from it and also Fat Harry's opposite where you will get live music.
