As for me I still get a taxi and pay the £80 for the peace of mind, not so bad between 2 of us.

The big difference between your everyday work experience and getting to the airport for your holidays once or twice a year doesn't compare really Brenliz. I can see your point at not wanting to get to work early everyday but in terms of getting to the airport 15 minutes is neither here nor there.
Besides, most who are using the train are combining it with an overnight stay in an hotel. For £89 for the two of us, my peace of mind is being at the airport the night before and not having to worry about the taxi turning up, road conditions etc etc. I will also make the journey part of the holiday !

Dave I don't mind getting to the airport early, in fact even though I go by taxi I always get there about one and half hours before I should, I love the airport. The reason I won't go by train is because I don't feel I can trust them to turn up. As I said, I get the trans penine express to work everyday and it is not unusual for it not to turn up at least I know from over 40 years of going to the airport by taxi I have never had a problem. Once bitten, twice shy as they say. I appreciate you probably have to travel a lot further to the airport than I do and if I had to travel a long way I might consider the train but having said that, in the past when I first went to Goa and when I went to Kerala I had to go from Gatwick and I went by National Express to the airport.

We are flying on Friday 31st New years Eve so decided to go to Manchester the day befroe as I imagine the roads will be quite busy on the Friday. Got a Premier Inn at the airport for £29 which I thought was good.

Nice and relaxed for the flight instead of stressed if we drive on the Friday

:cheers
