I have been trying to find a suitable Greek Island for our holiday this year and there are so many that I don't know where to start !
Last year we spent a week in Mastihari on Kos and loved it so ideally we are looking for something like that.
We are a family of 4, children will be 7 and 4 when we go and we will have to go in August school holidays.
We want something small and Greek rather than loud and British, with a good beach, some nice tavernas and restaurants, a few shops to look around, no high rise hotels, we would prefer an apartment or villa.
Also somewhere that doesn't cost a fortune to get to, flights to some islands seem so much more expensive than others. And again not too expensive when we get there, I have heard that some islands are very expensive to eat out.
Can anyone help me narrow my search? I have looked at Corfu but I would like to have a look at some other islands too.

Sorry, I should also add that with young children we would like to fly direct to the island rather than go via a ferry.

the title says it all! Of the islands with major airports Lesvos is one of our favourites. Its less touristy than most. As for prices Skiathos & Santorini have a reputation for being expensive but its not difficult to find normal Greek prices even on these islands. You can rule out Santorini if good beaches are important. Dont rule out the mainland, Parga (Epirus region) the Pelion & the Peloponesse all have excellent family resorts.

Interested in where you've been thinking about in Corfu (never having been to the place you mentioned on Kos for a comparative). Corfu gives you some of the cheapest direct flights to the Greek Islands (and the mainland in general too), so that helps keep the costs down - and also has a good amount of private rentals. Which is why I've just booked to the island again (made a few visits over the years to different quieter areas).

Phoebe, that is the reason I had thought of Corfu, the flights do seem a lot cheaper. I don't really know where to look there either, do you have any recommendations on quiet resorts on the island?
