If you like cruising, then the scenery in Alaska certainly has the wow sensation. What about Australia - again depends on how long you can be away. The surface would be no more than tickled in a fortnight, but it would give you an idea of what it is like.

Strongly recommend ICELAND - it's not always snowy and cold ... we had +25 °C this July! The company Iceland On Track have some great interior tracks which can be coupled on to visits around Reykjavik, Snaefellsness, the Blue Lagoon and the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, at reasonable prices with excellent hotels, guiding, luxurious 4WD, and expert local knowledge.
And as for the WOW factor - it never stopped from the moment of arrival at Keflavik airport at 23H30 and still being in full daylight till our final views from the air on our flight home. The scenery is spectacular, everything is clean and upbeat, the locals are very friendly and the quality of the air is like being drunk on champagne!

Have you been to Egypt? That was amazing for me.
Heron Island, in Oz would do it for me in Sept/Oct to watch the whales heading South and listening to the Shearwaters at night.
