I'm off for a 3 day break in Alicante next week arriving Tuesday afternoon, leaving Friday afternoon.
Going on my own...so will be easier to get around etc.......looking for advice on what to do where to go visit/ eat etc.
Got a nice hotel in city centre, quite close to railway station. I want to explore the city but also thinking (If I have time), Elche, Santa Pola and El Campello.
Looking at advice on best way to get around, where to get good basic local food, places worth visiting or avoiding.
If the sun is out....I want to be outside, not going from museum to museum.
Any ideas ?
Dave
At the time of year your going I dont know if everything will be open,I would think they should be as its a large city.
I go to Alicante every June for the San Juan Fiesta so I cant really comment on what things will be like in late March.
I would certainly go to Santa Barbara castle - the views from the top are magnificent. There are 2 cathedrals and several museums that are of interest too.The town hall is also interesting and can be visited inside.
There are lots of restaraunts the best are near the old town around the town hall cathedral and on the marina.I would recommend the Tapas bar on the main street that runs up from the prom to the city centre, I think its called Lizzarran, but the street is called Rambla Mendez Nunez. The bar is about half way up on the right as you walk up from the promenade. You help yourself to the food and keep your sticks that is in them. The longer the stick the dearer the tapas or pintioxs as I think the call them.Take your sticks to bar and settle your bill.
There are really good shops if thats your cup of tea and also a great beach if the weather is nice.
There is also a great tram service that runs along the coast to Benidorm stopping at lots of places on the way.
if I can offer any more help please ask. Heres a good site http://www.alicante-spotlight.com

You can catch a train from Alicante to Elche It's a nice city The palms are well worth a visit.Santa Pola is a lovely Spanish seaide resort You can catch a ferry to the island of Tabarca from there
