Hi
We have never been to the caribbean, and for the first time are thinking of going to Jamaica for our 25th wedding anniversary. My brother loved it and said it was lovely.
I have looked at several hotels, and reviews.
Can any of you for this special anniversary recommend any hotels A1 that has a great beach and good facilities ? We do like to be kept busy so would like to venture out on some trips, but also to chill as well. February is the time we will go as our anniversary is on the 13th.
Thank you
Michelle x
Jamaica is Sandals central so you have a large choice of hotels. We stayed at Dunns River and also visited their Ocho Rios resort several times and both hotels were terrific. If you want a stunning beach then Negril would be best, though the downside is it's rather isolated (on the west coast) for excursions and trips like the Dunns River Falls (a must do) will be a long day. The other one I like the look of is their Royal Caribbean resort in Montego Bay which has it's own private offshore island and is well placed for sightseeing.
If you happen to be going to the Ideal Home Exhibition this week, Sandals have a stand there with all the brochures etc.
Just so people don't think I work for them, the other adults only chain that have been around for years and get consistently good ratings are the Couples resorts and some friends of ours have very fond memories of their stay.
I'm glad to hear your brother enjoyed Jamaica, as it's garnered some bad press over the years. If I tell people we're going to (say) Barbados, they'll say "ooh lovely" whereas Jamaica elicits a "isn't that bit dodgy?" response. I've never felt it's dangerous (though guests at the Riu Negril last Christmas might argue that point !!), but be aware that you will experience a lot more hassle from street & beach vendors than you would on the Eastern Caribbean islands.
Thank you for your reply, i have been looking at alot of hotels and my head is spining
me my husband and 2 sons stayed at Riu Ocho Rios, its next to sandals. there was plenty of weddings there, it was clean, staff fantastic and food lovely, if we ever go back we will defo stay here again, lovely beach, hope you enjoy
I would highly recommend Couples Swept Away in Negril. We have been there twice now. We went for two fabulous weeks in February and booked as soon as we came home for next February. The all inclusive is at the very top end of the scale and the food is to die for!! They have lots of actvities all included in the price including boat trips and diving. There is also a strict no tipping policy so you haven't got to carry any cash with you at all. The staff go out of their way to look after you and are amazing. They have hundreds of repeat guests also which speaks volumes for the resort.
