I'm sure some technically minded person will be able to help you, but will tell you what happened to us. We checked to make sure it would work, though were told it would be expensive and it would be better to get a sim card in Greece. As we were going to a remote place we bought £15 worth of credit, only wanted to check for an e.mail, and when we arrived we set it up and it worked ok, but next day, when we tried to log on we were told we had no credit. We knew it would be expensive but £15 for five minutes was daft.
We only took the notebook thingy to put the photos on so we cut our losses and did without internet.

I used a dongle in Aus for 3 months. It worked out at about £18 a month for 6gig of data total. We got it from a gadget shop in Queensland.
I would say wait until you get to your destination and shop around as one bought in UK probably won't work in Greece or Spain.

thanks for the replies, after doing a bit of research the best option looks like to buy one when you get to your destination.15 quid for 5 mins what a joke
If you use a UK sim/dongle abroad it can cost up to £8/MB and a mega isn't a lot of data. Better to get one locally.
