Hi sorry I cant help you on what its lik., But we have booked this hotel for our daughters wedding in june 12 there are 35 people going.
My daughter is worried because the reviews are pretty bad. Its obviously too late to do anything but can anyone tell me is it as bad as they say .Any info would be greatful.

We were at the Riu Bambu in Feb last year just as they were finishing the refurb of the rooms (but before the Facilities were refurbed) and had a great time. The beach is to die for - gorgeous. Caribbean street is just a row of shops in between the Riu Palace and the Riu Taino (which I believe has been pulled down and another Riu hotel is being built). There is also a row of beach hut shops about 15 minutes walk down the beach to the right. You can also use the facilities of the Riu Naiboa which is at the end of Caribbean street, but can't use the facilities of the 2 Riu Palace hotels on either side of the Bambu. You can walk round them to have a look, but can't use the bars, restaurants or pools etc.
For a weeks chill out after a cruise I think you will be fine. You just need to go there with the expectation that it is a 5 star hotel but a DOMINICAN 5 star hotel which is a lot different to a British or American 5 star hotel. We didn't find anything which spoiled our holiday and I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I have heard that a lot of people come from the palace to the bambu during the day .We are going in June and can't stand fighting to find a sunbed.My husband says if this is the case he will use the palace until they find us beds lol.
