I'm a great fan of the Olympics and would love to go. However, i've a feeling by the time I'd book a hotel and transport and tickets it would be out of my budget. I will be pricing up tickets for the Athletics though. It will be interesting to see how much of a hike the hotels in the city will be putting on their rates during this event.

I think being in London for the Olympics will be an absolute nightmare! None of us in our house want to go As Shirley has already said cost of hotels, tickets, transport and everything else will end up running into hundreds of pounds

Also the thoughts of terrorists attacks frightens me to death

I am a huge sports fan and would love to go..also, the company I work for has been involved in the Olympic Stadium project..but it is so unlikely that we would even get tickets...nor would we probably be able to afford the hike in prices that will no doubt happen for transport and hotels...and it is just too far to drive to make it comfortable

There is every chance we would be able to get to see some of the canoeing stuff as I gather that is meant to be hosted at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham..which is the other end of the county...but again, getting tickets.

I reckon I will end up watching it on Telly..

As others have said - I'd love to go, especially to the gymnastics, and the track events. I would imagine that tickets will not be easy to get hold of, with loads of clubs being given allocations first. I predict that as usual, the London hotels will put a huge hike on their prices, so unless you live close enough to be able to travel in and get home on the same day, you are going to be paying through the nose.

London 2012 train tickets on sale

A dedicated website with special East Coast train fares for travel to the London 2012 Olympic Games has launched today.

Spectators can buy tickets for travel next summer to London and other host cities on http://www.nationalrailgamestravel.co.uk

The website is valid for travel between July 18 and September 14. Tickets will be flexible to allow specators to change the time they return if an event is unexpectedly rescheduled or if they want to stay longer.

Railcard holders will be offered their usual discounts with no time or minimum fare restrictions.

East Coast commercial and customer service director Peter Williams said: "East Coast is expecting a large number of people to travel to London, Newcastle and Glasgow for London 2012 Games events and they can now book their travel on any one of our trains more than 12 months in advance.

"Throughout the duration of the Games, East Coast will operate additional services including two early morning services to London King's Cross, one from Newcastle and one from Leeds, as well as four late evening services out of London to Yorkshire and the North East.

"In addition, we will also run one additional morning and late night service during the Paralympic Games."

Ticketed spectators travelling to London 2012 Games events in and around London will also be given a Games Travelcard with their Games event ticket, allowing travel within zones 1-9 on most National Rail and Transport for London services throughout the day of their event.

East Coast was a random quote used by Travelmole but it applies to other operators as well. There is a downside here, those NOT travelling to the games and looking for tickets in normal timescales are going to struggle to get cheap fares on route with Games traffic, that applies to the other event locations such as Cardiff and Weymouth not just London.

I would love to go - but I'm afraid the costs of the tickets travel and accommodation would make it not possible, which is a shame

I managed to get tickets for the football final on August 11 !!

Have been trying to book hotels but most don't take bookings over a year ahead ?? - even tried travelodge (admit I have only searched the internet and not phoned companies direct yet).

You cannot get the train tickets advertised above from where i live for these dates, but we can travel in a day if we have to..

I suspect the train ticket issue will become a shambles. Network Rail will be making sure that main routes to London and other Olympic sites are kept clear of engineering work and have a stable timetable set now so that the reservations system will work. But other routes away from London won't be reservable until much closer to the date. So people who need connections may find that half the journey isn't on the system yet so they can't buy the ticket - then when the whole journey is available for sale the trains on the main route will already be full or all the cheap tickets have gone! Standby for newspaper headlines in about 9 months time.

But the railway industry did at least show they were in touch with what was happening, if the hotel industry isn't ready to take bookings for such a major tourist event where millions already have tickets it explains why tourism in this country traditionally fails to achieve.
