Prices fluctuate all the time. How many stops do you want? You can fly NCL-DXB-PER, but it's nornmally a little expensive than 2 stops (via LHR or another european hub and the far east). A friend is off to Sydney in July and paid £900 each for their flights a few months ago with Emirates, the same ones are now around £700. Just keep checking, I'm sure something will come up for your budget. BA / Qantas are not far off your budget at the moment at £2,685 on your chosen dates with stops at Heathrow and Singapore.

Changed dates now as I got the oz school holidays mixed up. Looking for around 29th sept to 10th oct. found some frommanchester on travel up for £1979 but was a 24hr stopover in Doha each way x

That's not bad if you can cope with the extended layover. You're looking at about £2,600 for those dates from Newcastle or Manchester via various hubs, without the layover.

Not necessarily that much - airlines with routes based on stopovers often have very good deals available with hotels. Friends who regularly fly to Tanzania via Dubai find that even with a 24 layover it is still considerably cheaper than direct flights out of London or via another European hub. On one occasion the overnight hotel was even included in the fare they were quoted.

I would quite fancy the Doha stop over - even with a 12 year old.

Obviously the Emirates flight to Perth via Dubai would mean straight baggage booked straight through to final destination. As mentioned previously you just need to keep checking and maybe Emirates will have a sale.....
