ok me and my girlfriend want to go on holiday but cant decide where to go, both of us are quite random and we both have always wanted a random holiday.
so the idea was to go to the airport and just buy a ticket to the next available flight
there obviously would be some kind of rules such as budget and weather extremeties
i was just thinking that if we end up to a random place 'bulgaria' none knows the language possibity of not being able to get a hotel or something?
i just wondered if anyone here has actually done this before and to say about there experience from it...
thanks
but its not a cheap way of holidaying now as last minuet flights don't seem to drop much in price,
a better bet would be go to a travel agent say you have up to £XXX and you want to fly from YYYY what can they offer [the independents will probably have more than the big boys
all i want is to get on a plane go to somewhere hot like the mediteranean or something and go chill out, but i say both me and the girlfriend arnt a very decisive couple
trouble is with all the amalgamations and airlines that have gone bust over recent years there are fewer flights so fewer spare seats, and these usually sell out before the day of the flight anyway, so give us some sort of clue, what are your nearest airports and when doe you want to go
and looking at november time,
It may be an idea to look up the airports website to see what destinations they fly to and the days they fly out on - especially if your dates are flexible.
you should be able to get something cheap with ryanair/easyjet for november.
if you want sun then the canaries or southern spain are probably your best option.
book the cheap flight asap and then you can look for accomodation at your leisure, even leaving that until very close to departure as the price of accommodation usually does not go up at that time iof year.
I like the idea of random holidays however I do think I would like to make sure I had somewhere to stay when I got to the other end....so maybe going and booking something about a week before I wanted to leave is about as daring as I would get.
Why don't you go to a airport that has a travel agent in house? In Glasgow airport as soon as you come out of departures you can go straight to Barrhead travel desk and book a flight/hotel. I know people who have turned up at the airport and done that.
I was going to suggest that greenshoes- years ago it wasnt unheard of for folk to turn up at the airport with their suitcases-look at the departure boards- decide where they wanted to go- and wait until the last few minutes of check -in- and go up to the desk and see if there was any spare seats- and book- or even book a holiday for peanuts - in some cases just pay for the name change- of any non showers- that didnt check in for whatever reason or other.
I've seen this at Stuttgart in Terminal 4 - the charter/holiday/Turkey flights terminal where there are plenty of travel agencies ... but think over here those days are over. Pity!
