Help.... am considering a 2 week holiday in Jan and would like some heat & interesting places to see.. Have looked at South Africa & Thailand but open to offers.

those are the 2 I would have suggested 
Haven't been to either in January but I know the weather will be fine. If I could, I would go to Krabi then.

January's a great time to visit the Andaman coast of Thailand - Krabi, Khao Lak, Phuket, Trang. Also a good time to visit Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Golden Triangle etc). And there's other areas in SE Asia that are good to visit that time of year - Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam). And Myanmar is starting to open up as well.
