I arrived back from Dalaman this morning at 6.30am and because of strong winds the landing was aborted just as the wheels were about to touch the tarmac
We circled the airport and landed about 10 minutes later to applause for the pilots.
Its the first time I have experienced this but at no time did I feel scared as the pilot keep us informed of what was happening.
It was a brand new Thomson 737-800 plane.
Sounds like you had fun! What you experienced was a go around caused by an unstable approach due to the gusty winds today. With the northerly winds and many runways being east-west, there were some interesting crosswinds today. Safety always comes first so the crew decided to stop the approach and try again with hopefully better conditions. Its not uncommon and a procedure that's in place in case its needed on every landing so perfectly safe. Its often worrying when you don't know what's happening but glad everything went well. There were several similar go arounds today weather related.
