I was due to be getting married on 19th July and so booked a 10 day break to Eygpt as our honeymoon costing over £3000.
Now the wedding has been cancelled so I called to cancel the holiday and get a refund to be tokd that as my fiancee at the time was lead passenger she needed to do it through email. So an email was sent from my fiancee to which we had no reply, she sent another email 5 days later asking if the refund had been processed only to be first told they did not receive the email then told that because a travel advisor had spoke to her over the phone after the email about the options of transferring the money to another holiday then the email was no longer valid!!
Now because the date of departure is less than 70 days ( it was more than 70 days at the time of first email) we loose not 10% but 30%!!! They have got to be having a laugh. As I write this my ex partner is awaiting a phone call from thomas cook head office.
There is no way they're getting away with this. You think booking with a big company you would get some kind of decent people serving you!
you should of wrote to them recorded mail.plus gone on to live chat.all you needed was your booking details ref number dates etc.best of luck i am trying to get money out of them for a flight delay.but now my case as gone to caa.
Has your fiancé still got a copy of the first email in her sent email box ? If so it should be timed and dated then print that out and then print out the follow up email and maybe try the small claims court to get a refund. It will have to be the lead booker that takes them to small claims though from what I remember reading. I wouldn't let it drop if you feel that they deliberately delayed responding so that you went across one of their deadlines and they could get away with giving you a smaller refund. Hopefully the small claims people would see through them using those kind of delaying tactics and award in your favour.
