Hi guys. I have recently bought some small lightweight cabin size cases from Matalan (the ones with butterflies on) thinking that they would be great to take on a Ryanair flight. I now notice that the depth with wheels is 23.5cm ( Ryanair says it should be 20cm) The other measurements are fine.
My question is this. Has anybody had this actual case refused for cabin baggage? I don't live far from the airport so could nip down and size it up in the cage by check in. If you have used it, it would be helpful to know if it did fit in the cage ?
Thanks.
I travelled back on Wednesday with Ryanair and these cases are now very popular, many fellow pasengers had them and none of the gate staff gave them a second look.
The Ryanair cage is slightly larger in size than the maximum cabin baggage size they quote on the website so they do give everybody a chance to pad out their hand luggage a little but some take things too far !
Don't worry hbrac the small cabin case fits in the cage - tested it myself at Rhodes airport
Thanks everybody. My daughter took it to London on the train this morning and, padded out, it looks enormous so we were very apprehensive and thinking of taking them back and getting smaller ones. I will not need to go to Liverpool airport this morning then !
2 people in front of us yesterday on our return flight from Fuerteventura had those cases and they did look as though they'd hold quite a bit
£10 off these lightweight cases (all sizes) at the moment. I'm not sure when the offer expires. Might be the end of the month. They have a 10 year guarantee. According to the Matalan lady..initially with them and the rest of the time with the manufacturer i.t. Just keep your receipts.
If you're watching people in a queue it's pretty hard to guess accurately which size bag they're actually using, to know whether it's one that does actually 'comply', or a slightly large one. I made an airport check before I used both of mine. I just left all the labels on and carried it, so I could take it back if it wasn't the right size.
That's interesting Sunaddict. The Matalan ones are 55x35x23.5cm. Did you carry through one of these ?

Matalan sell all the sizes I quoted. It's a bit of a minefield lol. I've got two of my small ones from there. I tried it in the measuring gauge and the airport and then gave it my son to use. He had no problems. The label on that one is 55 x 40 x 20, so exactly the right size.
I haven't tried the one thats 56.5 x 36 x 21 but I may treat it to a day out before long to test it
Just to add to the confusion I've found the new one I bought as a spare is 55 x 36 x 19.5
