The V.C. Bird International Airport should have a new terminal in operation by November 2014. Antigua has seen an increase in UK tourists of 22% last year and it should only increase with the new terminal.
I found Antigua airport to be very outdated so this should be a big improvement. There will be treble the amount of gates and of course all the restaurant and retail outlets to go with them.
Antigua is a stunning island. I have never seen so many beautiful beaches anywhere else.
Anybody thinking of going?
I've been to Antigua, a few years ago and loved it. But the airport rated as one of the worst I've experienced. Welcome news about the new terminal -it was definitely needed. I've no plans to go back, at the moment, but an improved airport would definitely make me happier if / when I do.
We went in July to English Harbour and it was just deserted. Two restaurants open but at 10pm all the lights went out- including street lights.Luckily we hadn't paid up front so we moved to Jolly Harbour Villas which were lovely and had more going on. So with more capacity in flights I hope they begin to market Antigua as not just for yachting and cruise stops
