I've been to Kerala and enjoyed it, though the state has always had a bit of a weird relationship with alcohol. The population apparently has an alcohol problem - but there always have been restrictions on tourists and alcohol - with only government shops allowed to sell it, many bars serving alcohol in unmarked containers, or, wonderfully, beer in teapots on the beach!!
But now it looks like the Indian government is getting really serious - only rich folk in 5 star hotels will be expected to drink alcohol in future. India does do some crazy things!
