im going on holiday with my mum but i havent shown her the reviews yet, is it possible to cancel holidays, the receipt came through today i think? if not i wont show her as it wont do any good.. if it is possible to cancel, shall i tell her? or could the reviews be misleading as there is a good review on (cant link exactly to it, holidays uncovered, so this is it)

Tim ... I have edited the subject line of your topic to show the property name, in the hope that it may attract the attention of recent visitors to those apartments. I'm not quite sure why you posted under the heading of "Does anyone still read??" but that may partly explain the lack of response.

You will also see that one of your posts has had to be edited for copyright reasons.

Pending some positive feedback from any of our members who may have stayed at this property, all I can suggest if you are unhappy with the reviews you have read is that you express your concerns to your travel agent, with a view to changing your booking. But that is likely to attract a charge, subject to alternative accommodation being available.

However, hopefully the edited heading may attract some further feedback.

I came back this Tuesday from Malta. I stayed at the Dorirose ApartHotel for 1 week with my 6 year old daughter on a half board basis. The Dorirose is located behind the Canifor hotel and can be accessed through the Canifor hotel, walking down past the pool area into the back. You can also access the Dorirose entrance between around 08:00 - 20:00, but it is quite shabby and hostel looking, so I always used the Canifor entrance.

The apartment I had was on the top floor (5th floor) at the rear of the hotel. I had partial sea view where I could see St Paul's Islands but there were 2 building cranes either side of the block doing construction work, this never bothered us though. There is a small lift that you can access the aparment block from.

The apartment had a Kitchenette with sink, mini oven with 2 electric rings, (stocked with dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, glasses, etc, fridge, television (although the satellite was playing up so you got frozen pictures on English channels), sofa, dining table and 2 chairs, bathroom (bath with a nice powerful shower.. better than mine at home, toilet, sink) and bedroom had 2 single beds, dresser, wardrobe and led out to the balcony. The balcony could do with a fresh lick of paint but it had a line to hang your clothes and chairs to sit outside.

My room was cleaned daily, fresh towels were also provided daily, although the maid will come to clean your room between 09:00 - 09:30 and will just use their own keys to enter unless you make sure you put the 'do not disturb sign' outside your door. The maid caught me and my daughter snoozing in the morning one day when I forgot.

The only issues that I had with the room were that there is no air conditioning and no fan available, so I was very glad that I went when the weather was mild or I would be gasping for air around July/August.

The pool area of both the Canifor and Dorirose are somewhat pitiful. I would advise to just head on a bus to a beach. People are out there on sunbeds from as early as 08:00 and there are not enough to go around. The pools are corner pools and they are no good if you want to swim lengths. Also for younger children the pool because of its shape just slopes down and becomes quite deep, so not suitable for under 8's. There are 2 small kids pools but my mother's fish pond is alot bigger. There is an indoor swimming pool downstairs and it smells of some serious chlorine, but I never did feel compelled to use it, although it looks clean and ok.

There is a no smoking policy within the hotel building (excluding rooms and sunbathing area) and everyday, I would see smokers sitting outside with their beverages because you couldn't smoke in the bar areas. Often when we would arrive late in the night we would find that the pool area was messy with cups and fag ends, etc. The maids would clean the area well every morning.

Meals are served in the Canifor restaurant, breakfast 07:45 - 09:45, lunch 12:30 - 13:30, dinner 17:45 - 21:00. I would not say that there was any traditional maltese cuisine, there is a children's menu (junk food and ice cream of course) and the meals are served buffet style. For me, I felt that the food was bland at times, but it was not the worst food I have ever had, it satisfied our stomachs after a long days travel and we never got any bad stomachs. You really can eat all you want. You have to pay for all drinks at dinner times. My daughter ate from the main dinner buffet most evening and only used the childrens menu twice.

I heard some entertainment going on a few evenings. It sounded like karaoke, but to be honest I never really stayed in the hotel much apart from sleep, wake, shower, eat... off...... eat, shower, sleep.

There are alot of senior citizens and middle-aged people staying at the hotel. Not many young children while we were there, but a few teenagers. There is nothing by means of entertainment for small children. There is a dusty snooker table, a few archaic arcade machines and 2 internet consoles that never seemed to work (although there is an internet cafe 5 mins down the road).

All in all, I liked the Dorirose. It was basic, quiet, 3 mins walk to Bugibba bus terminal, but I was extremely comfortable and I could quite happily have stayed there long term, provided I had other creature comforts such as a large TV, DVD player, stereo system, ceiling fan.

I enjoyed my stay and I would stay there again no problem. The staff were all polite and friendly and they love children. If you are looking for a good basic place as a base, then this is very nice. I was hardly at the hotel and when I was there I was extremely comfortable. I never had any creepy crawlies either.

Don't worry about the bad reviews, it is not the pits and I am "Ms Fussy". Anyone who would like pictures of the Dorirose apartment room I stayed in can email me and I will send. I managed to get a week's half board accommodation for £134.00 and I felt that this was a great bargain.
