Hi
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please ?
My husband and I have unexpectedly been given the chance to get away on our own for the last week of July and would like to try Corfu,
but as we have never been before we are unsure which would be the best place to stay. We don't fancy anything too loud or lager louty but we're not decrepid yet and would like a bit of life if this is possible.
Can anyone recommend the best place for us ?
Thanks
Rac

We stayed at San Stefanos in North East Corfu which is the most scenic part of the Island and well worth visiting!
San Stefanos village is small and tranquil on the coast set within a quite bay, it has 4/5 very good tavernas and 1 bar. Superb countryside surroundings.
Note:There is another San Stefanos on the North West coast of Corfu.
For livlier place look at Kalami in the same area or the busier Kassiopi further north.

It's peaceful but there's always something going on - it's difficult to get bored, especially if you've got a car or (even better) a boat for a few days.
There are two bars in town now - Damianos and The Wave - and we had no trouble staying out 'til 2am every morning. We actually planned to go to Kassiopi on a couple of nights, but didn't need to.
The tavernas in town are a decent quality and the place is VERY friendly.
Views of Albania are great.

Lots of useful information, pictures, messageboard and webcam.
As Rich C said, there is always's something to do.. Car hire and boat hire is readily available to explore at your own pace. Nice area for walking too!Greek hospitality in San Stefanos was top class!
We intend to go back one day after we have visited some of the other Greek Islands!
Thanks for your help, I'll have a look at those sites
We booked our accomodation through Agni - very good service.
this is the other san stefanos very peaceful and "laid back" village
Thanks Billiz
Acharavi on Corfu's north coast would also fit the bill, a good choice of bars and restaurants, a long sand and shingle beach with water sports.Lots of excursions available to sightsee if you want to be active, a bus service along the north coast and to Corfu town and a peaceful place if you just want to chill. A great area for walking. The area is quite flat but the mountain backdrop is spectacular. Its got a good combination of quiet with things to do. Have a look at
Check out http://www.pelekas.com.
Pelekas has just about everything you could want including possibly the best beach on the island. (West coast beaches are generally sandy whereas a lot of the others are pebbles or shingle.)
It's not loud and lairy but has some super bars.
There is no package tourism in the village so you will meet a variety of people from all over the world, which in my opinion always makes travelling a bit more interesting.
The great advantage is that it's only 30 minutes on the (very frequent) bus to Corfu Town or 15 minutes by car or taxi.
There is some nightlife in the centre but you're far enough away from it (about a 1-15 min walk, no hills) and there are some lovely restaurants, like the Three Little Pigs, which has Greek dancing nights.
I went with my boyfriend and we were looking for a good mix of relaxation but also a livelyish atmosphere, and these apartments were great.
Hope this helps!!
oh yes, the beach at sidari is lovely too, especially in the late afternoon as it stays warm for ages
Thanks for your help everyone.
