I've stayed there and would go backagain. There's nightly entertainment which is varied. The staff are lovely. We went with Kosmar. The rooms were very clean but the furniture was dark and dated. The tiolets and shower are tiny, but hey, they work. I did notice however that the Thomson guests seemed to have superior rooms with a better outlook, but it was all relevant to what I had paid for my holiday. You are a 10-12 min walk to the main village square, where most of the bars and restaurants are. There's a supermarket nearby and if you go out of the Angelo at the back on to the main road, turn right and walk 5 mins. You'll be at a huge supermarket. You are also on 5 mins walk to the beach.

Me and my girlfriend are also staying at The Angelo this summer. We travel on 16th June and stay for a week although I wish it was two judging from the feedback I've received on various other sites from past guests. Most people have told me only positive things and the negative comments I have received have been little things like the pool being saltwater, the bottom of the pool being rough on your feet, the bathrooms being very small, the entertainment in the hotel going on until midnight / one o'clock - nothing too problamatic!

It appears that The Angelo has a lot more going for it than against and I'm already counting down the days. I can taste that Mythos now!

Thanks for that Jade and Steve. We are going with Kosmar so I wont expect a great room but as long as its clean as you said Hey its all relevant to what you pay. We dont spend a lot of time in the room anyway we would miss all that sun that we have paid to go to. We arrive on the 23rd Steve so you will be on your way home when we arrive. We can almost taste the Mythos too. Have a great time.

Some good point Steve, My girlfriend and I are staying at the apartments for two weeks from 6th June 05. There is definately more plusses than minuses. I've been to most islands, but first time to mainland, so I'm looking forward to it and to knock back a few mythos (I'll be on the sun lounges drowning my sorrows after Norwich's relagation!), and by the looks of it, you be doing the same if your from the red side of Manchester after the FA Cup final result!

Are either of you going with Kosmar from Bristol. We have had notice that we have to touch down in East Midlands On the way over which means we take off at 15.45 and land at Thessalonika at 23.45. This is more than a touch down even if you take into account the two hours added on for|Greek time. What with an earlier flight back too we have lost nearly a day of our holiday. Would be interested to hear from anyone else with this problem :(

We flew from Glasgow and touched down at newcastle, (its all about bums on seats) and that added supposedly 1hour to our journey. Problem was a couple at newcastle had missed the announcement and we were just about to off load their luggage when they showed up. They had been in the bar!!!! They strolled on a sthough nothing had happened. Only consolation was that the plane touched down in Glasgow first on the return leg of the journey.

It seems to be a Kosmar thing lately. I must say that we have been travelling with them for a number of years and it was only last year that we had any problems. Namely a delay with the airline Islandflug. At least we only had a four hour delay. Our brother in law was delayed for 19 hours a couple of days later with the same airline. But at least we have two weeks and I refuse to let it spoil my hard earned holiday. 4 weeks to go!

Well, My Girlfriend and I have just got back from two weeks in Hanioti - staying at the Angelo Hotel. 06/06 - 20/06

We stayed on the top floor, opposite the swimming pool. The rooms as nice and clean, cleaner cleans each day, 7 days per week which was really good. Downside is that you have little or no privacy on your balcony - you'll see what I mean.

Rooms.

Pretty basic, but clean. Two twin beds pushed together to form a double. One unfortunate sole has to sleep right next to the fridge, which is REALLY noisey once it starts going. You get a TV (two English Channel, BBC World and some other - didn't watch it personally). Showers OK, bit weak but if you take it off of its holder you can get a decent soaking.

Hotel itself

I have never been to a place that was so LOAD and TACKY in the Evenings. To be honest we never ventures past the Hotel Reception so didn't actually participate in any nightly entertainment - didn't need too it was so loud you could hear from the Bedroom (DON'T say on the top floor or any of the rooms near) - God know how the poor people closer felt. 3 nights of week were Karioke - I'm sure they only ever had one tape - god awful. One night per week was the 'Greek Night' where they try and charge you 14 Euro each - definately not worth it. The other 3 nights were either a 'Ladies' night or 60's or 70's music. Every night it would finish at approx 01.00.

The actual hotel was nice been to worse, been to better. Pool is pretty small, and really cold (it's been reported on here water was salt water, but it's OK). The bottom is rough, but no worse than the beach. We were there for 2 weeks and I can count on one hand how many time I sat near the pool. Personally I prefer the beach rather than sitting around next to tattooed, bear bellied, crisp munching people. You had the Sun worshipper who were there day-in-day-out, from 10.00am until 6.00pm, moving the sunlounger as the sun moved!, You felt obliged in the morning not to sit on particular one's as you know that the 'regular' would become annoyed.

There is a pleasant garden leading to the stairs (to the main road), nice to sit in and get away from the music/pool/kids screaming in the pool and fighting over the hotel lilos....but loads of Ants so beware.

Sia, the Hotel Reception, you'll know the one - she the large Aussie (beware I saw her out one Friday night with a mini-skirt - when you see her you'll know why), got pretty annoyed with people, us included for not participating in any hotel activity (basically because you weren't spending you money on the high inflated prices at the hotel. You don't need to pay more that 2.5E for a pint.

Keys are another funny thing, I'd read a few posts that you get a snotty note through the door when you fail to leave the key when going out, so I duly kept handing it in....until one day we went on an excursion, 07.00, but no-one was on reception so I kept it....then we get back and we have the legendary note!

I'm sure the brochure said 42 rooms, so I was thinking smallish, turns out to be a hotel with 150+ apartments/rooms.

Hanioti

Itself, a really nice relaxing place and glad I chose it over the other resorts - though no resort is as nice as the Islands. We drove to them all but Hanioti is the best. If your like me and like to see the Greek culture come through, you'll be disappointed - loads of tack shops selling fake sunglasses, fake tops, fake hats, fake bags...everything fake (though I must admit I did by a fake Greece football top and a pair of fake Gucci glasses), some of the fakes do make you laugh though - you'll see.

The resort itself is mainly centred around the square. Very nice during the evenings with colourful fountains, artists painting characturers and the locals sitting around talking.

The bars are very nice and relaxing, not tacky. Expect to pay around EUR2 for a beer and EUR2.5 for a glass of wine.

Food

Good choice, we probably visited 7 or 8 during the 2 weeks. Favourites included 'The Garden'. We ate local each night, so would recommend everything from the menus (except for meat balls - kinda like a beef burger but sat very heavy on the stomach!). There's a restaurant as your walking towards the square from the hotel - the name I forget - some tavern which has an excellent Fish meze - well recommended. Surprise by how many authentic restaurants there were, as unfortunately nowadays then seem to only cater for the bland English pallet (though you will find a fish 'n' chip shop, and a couple of places advertising the 'English Sunday Lunch' - who wants a roast when its about 32 degrees??????? There's also a decent Chinese restuarant for a change (and the place opposite this is nice too, but forget the name.

Excursions.

Don't get ripped off by the Reps, Everything they offer, you can get about 40% cheaper in the resort. Even better hirer a car, Roads are excellent (200% better than the islands). We had a Renault Twingo, did the job, went to the market, caves, sithonia, all resorts throughout kassandra and cost me 22 euros in petrol rather than about 200 euros in excursion fees. I'd never driven abroad but found it safe and enjoyable - signs are in english which helped!!

Beach

Bit pebbly, relaxed, and not overcrowd (even when the Greeks come at the weeked). Expect to pay 6 euro daily for sun-loungers X 2 and umbrella. or do what we did and buy to lilo for 5 euro each and use them!!!

General

All I can say is thank god for the Islands. Having been to Skiathos, Thassos, Kefalonia, Ithica and Crete, the mainland is not a touch on the islands. I very much doubt I will be going back to the Halkidiki region of Greece, not when the Islands offer so much more.

Not been to these apartments but personally Halkidiki is the worst greek resort I have ever been to. Not very greek and the only bar that stopped open very late was full of English paying overinflated prices and it had extremely load music blaring out. I prefer to see sunrise with a few mellow sounds in the background, sipping a ouzo with like minded people. Nearly put me off main land greece for life, thank god i risked parga last year and regained faith!

Thanks for your report Carrow road. Have just got back and have to say we agree with everything you say. We found the apartments VERY noisy at night and were on the ground floor right opposite the reception. Didnt have the Aussie receptionist there any more though. Sounds like that was a blessing. On the whole I say Thank goodness for the Islands! Will post more when I have got back to reality properly
