From the photos I have seen of Corfu Airport it looks like another exciting experience, just hope they remember to stop. Should be fun! Cant be anymore hair raising than Zante Airport. When they turned for the runway the wing almost touched the sea, well.. it looked like it was, we could almost see the people on the boats! They had to get between two mountains so the turning was a bit tight and we could see all the waves very closely. So after that experience I dont think Corfu will be such a white knuckle duster ride! Whatever - its all an experience and I am so pleased its not me thats 'driving' the plane, the pilots are doing this all the time and dont worry about it. My feeling is just go with the flow its all part of the travelling experience and think of the stories you can tell later. We are off to Corfu for the first time in September so will report then what we thought. :D

We did Zante airport a couple of years ago, we always try to have the extra leg room seats, so we had the stewards facing us on take off and landing. My husband had heard things about that airport so when the stewards were chatting to us they could see that he was nervous. They didn't think that it was too bad and they both agreed the worst airport landing they had experienced was Madeira.
Whilst on holiday in Zante we walked upto Kalamaki across the beach and we waited for a plane to come, I tell you now it's much scarier on the ground than in the plane, we COULD see the people on the plane, I'm just glad we didn't stay in Kalamaki for that reason.

Your hubby need not worry. I'm terrified of flying , but go back to
Corfu year after year. Once you touch down, just get your foot on the brake, and so far, I've always managed to stop the plane in time!!!
Airport itself, fairly efficient, but extremely busy. Let you know how
busy on 5th July when we get back.

Cheers, we go on 5th August, on a friday. Someone told me the busiest day there is a Monday.

Fridays and Mondays seem to be the busiest days for U.K. arrivals.
If you are there for two weeks, usually the best days for any trips
you may want to do!!!!!!!!! Have a great time!!!!!!!!! :D

Yippee! Something to look forward to then as we go on a Monday (shall prepare myself for a long haul then). Don't know why we go on holiday with all the hassle!!! It makes me lol when I see everybody queueing to get off the plane in a rush and then rushing to get their luggage, it all arrives on the carousel at the same time. Just dont see the point in getting all stressed out - unless its on its way to India that is!

At christmas for the first time ever our bags came off at the other end really quickly. The reason being when we were checking in at East Mids, the woman at the desk was chatting to my husband and he mentioned that he's a nervous traveller and she put some bright orange tape onto our cases, she said that they do that and load them on last just incase nervous passengers decide not to get on!

We found at the airport on arriving the luggage seemed to take forever and there was no organisation, which was even worse on the way home, but nowere near as bad as Crete. Its only a short part of the holiday so enjoy yourselves

Thanks for that. I am seriously thinking of just taking hand luggage (I wish!) We had no problems with Crete Airport, but we have flown mostly into Chania. Very quick to go through and luggage pick up was about the same as Gatwick. Departure took longer though as the coaches all dropped off roughly the same time and the security checks were a bit longer, as I remember about 2 or 3 checks.

Hand luggage is the perfect answer these days, think about the old adage half the clothes and twice the money! Things are easily rinsed through and dry in minutes, keep it casual, keep it light. Its easy once youve done it once there is no going back.

I always take too much and dont wear half of it. Insecurities I suppose. Feel everything is a "must take just in case" or I find that after the first week nothing fits!!

We know a couple who fly to Kefalonia twice a year and only take hand luggage and I am sure you could get away with this in Corfu if you are going at the height of the season, but I think we always take too much as our English weather is so unprodictable and as you say it's just in case but in previous holidays how many times have you used the just in case items does it matter if you get rain one day your tee shirt and shorts will dry overnight and be ready for tomorrow

You are right, especially if you are in swimmers everyday you dont need much else. They say you should pack your bag and then half it, I shall try that this year.
