The markets are generaly souvenirs and trinkets. From what I've seen, clothes shops tend to be similar prices to here. There are lots of cut glass shops, but anything really good can be expensive. What sort of things are you looking for?

Hi Polly

There was a large Bata shoe shop on Wencelas Square which had a lot of good quality, good price shoes. (Brought back a couple of pairs  ).

Most of the shops though seemed pretty similar to ours - the souvenier shops (always like to bring back a bit of tat) where a bit of a pain though, the staff followed you around to such an extent we often left without buying. In fact, come to think of it, even we did buy something they still stood right behind us and still didn't 'crack a smile'

Hi totp and Maria H

Have got to come back with a bit of tat. will just have to endure the over zealous shopkeepers!!

Looking for clothes mainly I suppose, and I must admit I am a bit of a shoe fiend so a visit to Bata sounds like a must. I like jewellery as well, earings (pierced), necklaces or bracelets/

Thanks

Hi Polly

You might find some jewellery made out of crystal beads, if you like that sort of thing. Also look for Czech garnets and Baltic amber. If you are buying for any children, there are some nice handmade wooden toys, and for cheap gifts, look at the little figures made from corn husks or baked dough - nicer than they sound. There used to be a nice shop on the corner of the old town square (somewhere near the Tyn church) that sold some beautiful hand painted silk - made into scarves, ties and wall hangings - not cheap though. I'm not sure if that one is still there.

We found the shops around centre of Prague just so so (missed out on Bata!) but theres a big shopping centre in Andel that was fine but the prices were much the same as here. Found it hard enough to get nice things to buy (did eventually though!) and prices not as low compared to the food/drink at all. Whilst most staff were grand, some, especially one lassie in Tesco, deserve an award for rudeness!! Even the locals were astounded she could get away with such a bad manner! Just keep smiling!!

Agree with previous posts - food/drink cheap; clothes roughly the same as UK/Ireland.
