We used them most evenings but i'm sure you could get one to maspalomas beach in the day. Seem to remember them being really cheap. It was the sort of journey that was just to long to walk in the heat carrying towels, swimwear etc i.e. 20 to 25 mins, but about 5 mins in a car.
The taxis take you down to the lighthouse area of maspalomas, where there are 6 or 7 nice resturants to eat at on the sea front, there are also a few 4 and 5*hotels and designer shops. Alternatively they can take you to the Faro 2 Shopping Center, which is a collection of nice shops, restaurants and bars.
Sonneland itself in mainly a collection of low rise bungalow style complexes. Probably about 20 different accommodations. There isn't much else there.
i went here in 2003 with mytravel and they did the courtesy bus to maspalomas beach, i had a great time here and wouldnt hesitate to go back but cant find a travel agent who deals with this accomadation now ,so id appreciate knowing who you are travelling with. If you check hotel reviews on here you will find that i had written 1 when i returned and also a few others, hope this helps.
Hi Audbod. Thanks for your reply. I think I saw it on Direct Holidays/Airtours website.
My wife and I (and 13 yo son) stayed in that area in January 2003 and hated it. Got it as My Travel AOArr. Tried everything to get out of the place but My Travel weren't interested unless we stumped up another few hundred quid. The apartments themselves were okay but the whole place is so isolated and nothing like a holiday place. If anything it's residential. It's fine people saying you can get taxis cheaply (which you can) and they are everywhere, but if your idea of a holiday is being at the seaside then this area is definately not for you. I would guess it's about 4 or five miles to the nearest bit of sea. There is little or nothing to do in the area in terms of eating out or having a nice drink. What is around is dead and if my memory serves me right vastly overpriced. We go every year to Gran Canaria in the winter and have been loads of time to PDI and Puerto Rico. In our opinion Puerto Rico is the best and Sonnenland by a long way the worst. We have since come across others who ended up there and have exactly the same opinion as us. Incidentaly (although we didn't see any evidence) break ins are apparantly common place. There is lots of barbed wire fencing around the perimeter of the complex so there has obviously been problems. Sorry to sound so negitive but I really do believe people should know. One last thing. There was a very nice looking holiday complex which I think might be time share. If you end up in there I think it will be lovely, except the rest of the problems are still there i.e. the place is dead.
