Hi All,
It has been confirmed as why i have been so poorly and was admitted to hospital here on my return home. I have a parasite which the dr's do believe i contracted in Goa.
They think it is more possible that i got it while swimming in the stream where we bathed and cleaned the elephants.
The other thing i totally forgot was when i cleaned my teeth i used tap water! Dont forget to use bottled water.
Its okay though, i have fab weight loss happening so that was one way to kick start the new year diet!
To all that are going take care and enjoy yourself, i am still jealous and wish i was back there!
Ally
bad luck with the parasite and you mention brushing teeth with tap water i always do that and never have tummy troubles
It was only what the dr's here said was a possibility.
My hubby had, "a bad do" on our return last year, (not tummy troubles though).
He got a slight scratch on his leg after being in the river; after we had been home a week his calf swelled up to twice the size and became very red and painful.
He was rushed into hospital and placed on an anti-biotic drip for several hours.
As luck would have it the doctor here in Manchester was from Panjim! He recgonised his symptoms immediately and said he had been poisoned from a fish brushing his leg in the water.
He was fine after a week but it certainly got us scared.
I've often wondered about this business of bathing elephants in the stream.
2 years ago we booked the Jungle Trip. When they took us down to the water to show us where you bathe the elephants we were horrified. The water was, dirty, smelly and stagnent (probably full of germs and disease), and they were expecting us to get into this filthy water with elephants. No Way. Needless to say we got a taxi back to our hotel and reported this to our rep, demanded our money back in full. We got every penny back. (perhaps to keep us quiet).
Towards the end of the tourist season when the monsoon rains were many months past I would expect a pool in the jungle used daily for bathing elephants to be as you described it Whether you get in beside the elephants of course is optional. The lake district it crtainly is'int! We did and lived to tell the tale Alan
Surprisingly the water was completely clear when we arrived the day before and we went back to the stream the day after again the water was clear, you could see the fish swimming below us.
Once the elephants got in no one else did swim because the water became very cloudy however, i did do the 'getting washed by the elephant'!
But then again that was only going to be something i did once, so if i have an upset tummy for a couple of weeks so what i did it and that is it!
Still wouldnt stop me going back
you have to be careful as I've been told that fish wee in the water as well lol
Oh nice, washed in fish and elephant wee, i hope the humans were good and kept it in!
The Ponda elephants are in a river.
