They never weighed ours at Gatwick. Just asked how many pieces of hand luggage. No probs for us.
Same with me, machester never weigh our hand luggage, but sometimes they do want a quick look at it - just so they know its not a big bag.
i'm only guessing, but if your not taking any checked in luggage you still have your 20 kg allowance so the weight should be ok, as long as it fits in an overhead locker should be fine.
If it looks heavy they will ask you to put it on the scales. The 5kg hand luggage allowance is for safety reasons. If it weighs much more they will check it in as hold baggage. Had mine weighed on a couple of occasions, I normally use a Head bag.
I have seen someone have to put their hand luggage in the hold because of this because it was noticed at the depature gate.
If you smile nicely, make out it'snot heavy and let them see it's not that big then I'm sure you'd get away with it regardless of the weight.
Last year when we flew with Monarch, those people with the tiny wheelie type bags were allowed to take them through to the plane. However, when they got to the gate, staff took the bag off of them and put them in the hold. The reason they were told was due to the wheels making it difficult for other passengers to squeeze in their bags and coats in the overhead lockers. They were also considered a hazard as they could fall out and hit someone on the head.
i have NO idea about the answers to your questions,,,,,,BUT please tell my wife how you manage to get everything you need in a flight bag
