There is a couple of 'sort of live music bars' on the street where the Admiral Benbow pub is located, just off the main street (Papadiamantis st). I can't remember the names, but they are only tens of metres apart.

Good restaurants: Dunno however....

Restaurants to be avoided: Those farthest up the hill on the excursion boat harbour, they employ smarmy touts and foreign workers, they are expensive and poor. Taverna Kouva off the main st to the right, very poor.

OK Restaurants: There is one on the excursion boat harbour with newspaper like cartoons in the menus. There are various ones in the back streets that are more reasonably priced, as you would expect, directions are just about impossible however.

Hi Orly, put a google search in for skiathos bulletin board- it was always full of good info when we went. Good discussion board - rather like this one. Cheers

Hi, best restaurant by far in Skiathos is The Windmill, its run by Pam and Jon who are lovely people and the food is wonderful. The hike up the many steps to get there is more than worth it and despite everyone saying its very expensive, when you compare it to an average meal in the UK it is actually quite resonable. The view is spectacular...and if you are staying long enough, try and eat there onf a Fridayu evening, the planes coming in to land behind you is something youll never forget (itrs not noisy, just strange when they are flying lower than your table) http://skiathosinfo.com/business/windmill.htm

The Taverna Asprolithos is another great place, check it out. Great Greek food and a lovely atmosphere.

I would avoid those along the front as they tend to charge more and herd you in and out at busy times, my advice is to eat as late as possible and ask the locals where is best to eat,

At the top of the main street (Papadiamantis) there is the Polycratis. Now you will see many reviews for this being a great place, I disagree, it is a little too plastic for me, it totally depends on what you want. About halfway down Papadiamantis off to the left you will often hear live music coming from a lovely little place, usually a guitar and singing, quite nice really.

Anyway have a look at this link to some reviews

Hi
there's a really good restaurant in Kolios called Infinity Blue. Excellent food, but it does get very busy, the views are also great over the sea.

You can either get the local bus or a taxi.

In our opinion the best restaurant that we went to over a 2 week holiday in Skiathos 05 was The Village in Koukounaries. The Windmill is good but very very expensive in comparison.

Will agree with Sallybear, we went to all the ones she mentioned and Windmill twice. Also found some unusual ones in back streets with their own dancers.

yeah id have to agree, spend an hour or three trapsing around the back streets, all the shops are open, nip in and out of those that look interesting and stop for a drink or two, if you actually like Ouzo then ask for it, usually the Greeks are so amazed that a Brit likes it that they give it you for free and gets some good conversations going haha. Found a lovely backstreet place when I was in Skaithos but I cannot for the life of me remember where it is!!

Just come across a card for the Dionyssos Taverna located off papadiamanti street in the main town. From the harbour go up the street until you come to the national bank where there is a cross roads of streets where you turn right and the Taverna is up there on your left hand side. Do not be put off by the person outside the restuarant plying there wares. It is good traditional food and fantastic value for money.

Hi Rhombus
I remember eating here last year. We had 2 very good meals then one where I had Moussaka which had been seriously nuked in a microwave. Still, it was quite late when we ate there that time so maybe that was the reason.
It wouldn't put us off eating there again if we went back to Skiathos.

Thanks very much folks, much appreciated. If you remember any more, let me know. :D

Skiathos town

Simple rule - In town if its on the front it will be more expensive than those tavernas off Papadamatis street. Out of town will of course be cheaper but with the more personal touch.
The tavernas overlooking the harbour are said to be the most expensive in town. If you walk past them and on up the hill steps you will find some more tavernas which perch on the cliffs. There are three/four tavernas where the owners sit on the street and offer you their menus. All have great views over the bourtyzi and the old fish harbour. My favourite is called La Casa with an english girl waiting table.

Cluster of good tavernas at the rear of the old harbour, near the church. Good Italian Pasta/Pizza in the square behind the church under the trees, Nearby restaurant 1901 is very good but gets busy, has tables outside. The Windmill in town is run by an english couple and is a £40 a head A La carte meal inc wine, but is excellent and well worth the climb if you have a special occasion.
If you wander round the back streets in town there are plenty of good places to eat, if in doubt - just ask to look in the kitchen. Aspolithos & Dionnosis were both good. In Oct we also used a traditional Greek grill house on the road behind the bars on the old harbour front. Normally you would walk past looking for something better- it was brilliant cheap and the best lamb grill ever !
Near the hospital heading towards or from bus stop 4 (Acropolis) try the Amfiliki overlooking the cliff and Megali Amos beach. You would need to book this one as it was very popular (You could easily walk past it as it looks like a house, it just has a board outside). On Megali Amos beach (Town beach) there are a number of tavernas but as you walk down the slope from the carpark, the second taverna was very good and very reasonably priced.

Koukounaries

Tried the village in Koukounaries, good food but very busy and waiters had short fuse (It was hot) Best was Grill House Aspotolos near bus stop 23, Wood fired oven, fresh fish and grilled meats. Michaelis is a lovely old man and former sailor, survivor of a shipwreck in the black sea, Restaurant is dedicated to his lost shipmates. Great food and very cheap, and the best tszaiki on the island.

We stayed in Troulos Bay last year and although we caught the bus into Skiathos town most days and had lunch, you can guarantee that for the evening meal we always went to the Appaloosa bar and restaurant, the owner is very kind and helpful and the food is out of this world, in fact it's fabulous, so if you don't mind catching the bus one evening I would recommend you go there.

Sorry, the Appaloosa is in Troulos Bay if you were wondering.

We found a Swedish owned restaurant called 'Bonapartes' which was just off of Papadiamante St which was nice, it had a large bar area out the back but was perhaps a little more expensive than most other eateries in the Town but the food was good.

Thank you all very much, keep the suggestions coming. Does anyone know anything about the Atrium Hotel? Is is far from Skiathos town? :wave
