What is public transport like in Corfu? Is the bus service reliable and frequent or would we need to hire a car. When we were in Corfu over ten years ago we hired a car and got lost as there were no english translations to the road signs. We ended up in the hills and took an age to get back to base, it was a bit of a nightmare as the car didn't have air con and it was the middle of July.
We will be staying in Kassiopi and will be quite happy to spend our week by the pool and on beach (weather permitting), but as we'll be there at the start of May there's a good chance we'll have some rain. Then we'll be happy to explore other places. Is ther a bus service from Kassiopi to Corfu town or is it too far away? Thanks for any advice
There seem to be two sets of road signs for every junction now. One in Greek and one in English, so perhaps hiring a car wouldn't be such a problem now!
We have stayed in Greece on several Islands from April/October and it's suprising how the weather can vary from year to year.
Have a great holiday.
pojo
Thanks everyone. A week isn't long, so what we do will depend on the weather. Starting to look forward now. It won't be long. I love Greece but have always gone late July and August. Oh we did go to Zante once in September and the weather in the main was lovely, with the evenings cooling down towards the end of the fortnight. I'd better pack a selection of suncreams with various factors as well - so much to remember! The Joys !
Take your driving licence anyway and hire a car for at least a couple of days in the middle of the week. The limited bus service will limit you so much that it is a shame to miss out on the many beautiful places there are to see.
Don't worry about getting lost...most people do ! And the maps!! It is part of the fun. You are never really lost in such a small island... you just take longer to get anywhere and come out in different places to what you expect. Most junctions on main (Ha! Ha! ) roads have signs in English anyway.
The north west coast is not to be missed and also the central areas of northern Corfu are worth a wander through (i.e.south of Acharavi).
Hire a car!
We stayed in Acharavi the last time we were in Corfu and we definitely got lost with a capital L. As I said previously we ended up in the hills and just drove non stop for a couple of hours. We stopped once to look at our map and were immediately set upon by a couple of young children who gave dirty balloons to our two children only to demand money in exchange. We then noticed their beggar mother lying in a shelter close by. She soon got up, but we soon hurried off again. This was a horrible experience. It hasn't put us off Corfu as it was a beautiful place. If it rains when we are there we will probably try our luck with a car once again.
