I'm a big Cyprus fan so why not check out Protaras. There is also Minorca. It's very pretty and

low rise with lovely little coves and beaches and plenty to see

If you don't want high-rise, then try Lanzarote. There are building laws on the island which mean that no hotels are allowed to be more than 5 storeys; and apartment blocks can't be more than 3 storeys. There's plenty to see on the island, and if you have a browse through a few brochures you'll easily find lots of nice hotels with kids clubs. We were there last August and the weather was HOT, but there's a nice cooling breeze and it's not unbearably hot at night. If you go to Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise it's not too rowdy, just nice family bars and restaurants.
