We visited Fuerteventura last year and my 5 year old son got salmonella. I have now been complaining to the tour operator for over a year but feel as if I have got nowhere. After constantly chasing them I got a letter in May denying liability and offering £100 as a gesture of goodwill. After my response they still denied liability but increased they offer to £200. I have still not accepted this and I am in the course of preparing my next letter. They had an epidemiology report done due to the number of cases of gastroenteritis during our stay (they had this done during our stay but it took them 10 months to send me a copy). I have also received a copy of a audit which was carried out at the hotel which does not make very good reading and shows that hygiene levels at the complex were less than standard.
At the moment I feel that they totally ignore the contents of my letters and just write what they want to say and avoid any questions which I ask.
I have kept in touch with 2 families who also stayed at this complex and whose children were also ill and again they have got nowhere. I think that I am the only one out the three of us who has been offered compensation as I have the medical evidence to back it up.
Any suggestions as to what to do next will be gratefully received
Many Thanks

Contact Ros Fernihough on 01922 621114 first thing Monday morning. She is a travel law solicitor and well known to the tour operators. she will offer you free advice regarding your case.
Rang Ros yesterday afternoon but unfortunately she was not in. However spoke with her assistant who was very nice and explained the situation. She is sending me some forms to complete and then I am going to send her all the documentation between myself and the Tour Operator.
Will let you know how I get on
Thanks again

Thanks DJM, we would really appreciate that.
Just to let you know that the complaint is still ongoing and is now been dealt with by Ros Fernihough. Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks for the update
Hi, just to let you know this is still ongoing. We are now in the process of obtaining a medical report for my son. However, my neighbours who have also got in touch with Ros have now received an offer from the Tour Operator which they have accepted.
Many thanks DJM.
Thanks for putting me in touch with her, it was the best move I made and I wish that I'd done it earlier rather than trying to battle on my own for so long.
Thanks Again!
DJM
Ros is indeed a lovely lady and exceptionally experienced within her profession. The Tour Operators know her well
I take it that the Salmonella was found in food stuffs in the hotel and phage-typed and cross-linked to the symptomatic cases - including your kids?
