Hello Malta people, has anybody ever used Malta Bargains for a holiday other than the Palm Court Hotel they seem to have plenty to pick from, but are they any good.

I use them regularly for flights. Never had any problem with them
Okish I suppose.
Though I was at the Reuben Court - (which is the sister hotel?) of the Palm Court,
We used Malta Bargains for the first time in June and were delighted. I paid £150 for flight which usually costs at least £220. Will definately use next time.
malta bargains? We stayed at the regent hotel never again will i booked with this company no invoice came they sent it to the wrong address and thet gave me wrong flight times i phoned them three times to make sure because i know people going on an earley flight but they said it was fine got to the airport and my flight was leaving had to pay £120 each the next day to fly out and then get a taxi from the airport because mike smith who was the manager said it was my fault tryed to explain that i had a 12month old baby and he said its not down to him they may be cheap but please dont book with them
I must admit, when we first booked they sent the invoice with all the names spelt wrong and it took a very long, frustrating phone call to get a new invoice out of them BUT I still saved a real load of money on the flights. Last September we paid £239 each and this June paid only £149 each and as there are 5 of us, so thats the spending money isnt it.
I would use them again purely because they are so much cheaper but I can fully understand what you are saying, money isnt everything and if I were you I would be slating them as well.
I think I heard that they were a fairly new company, maybe only starting this year? If that is the case then hopefully the problems that you had were teething problems and wont happen again.
Did you ever get an apology or any money back? Was it flight only or a package? If it was package, did the accomodation live up to expectations?
Hi sarah it was a package holiday and this was in 2003 the hotel we stayed in was the regent and when we got to the hotel a day late they gave are room away because they thought we were not going got a diffent room after about 30 mins which was on the top floor when you have a pram and the lift can only fit 2 people in at a tim it was a struggle. the hotel its self was a disgrace if you got to close to the walls you were covered in chalk because the plaster was turning to dust with the damp andas we was having our meal a cieling tile fell down with the weight of the water it was holding it stayed on the floor for the 5 days of the holiday that was left, And one last thing to mention all the infomation they did give me was such a cock up i kept it with my passport in an envelope in the bedside draw it went missing so i had no proof little tip if you book with malta bargains photo copy everything they send you
Once again,Im sorry that you and your family had such a terrible time, It really isnt fair is it?
sarah xx
all replies appreciated - cheers - dotty
Hi there We used malta bargains at Xmas and stayed at the Howard johnson medditeranea Hotel at St Paul;s bay. Everything was as expected only cheaper that using other companies. the best thing to do is get a list of hotels from them and them check them out on the Hotel review site.
Malta Bargains no problems, stayed at the Santana Hotel last year good hotel and great price. Flight times not so good from Gatwick but for the price cannot grumble.
Just be prepared for every eventuality.... advice I wish I'd been given.
It never ceases to amaze me how people complain about a place like Palm Court - what's wrong with it?! You get what you pay for. I have been in and out of Malta for decades and use Palm Court as my base because for 150 quid I get a week's stay, flights, food if I want to eat there... who can argue with that? Show me a holiday in the UK for that amount of money! Anyway, I don't do holidays and I live in Crete but my point is your hotel should only be a place to dump your stuff and sleep at night; you should be out and about enjoying Malta not finding things to complain about.
I take your point Brett and I was not complaining about Palm Court. Used the facilities there in 2002 with no problem. What I was saying was that discount holidays were fine until something major went wrong...then you are on your own with no help or support from the holiday company. I had no problems with the accommodation at Reuben Court for the money I paid....just the faulty lift that broke my hip and the shoddy treatment from Maltabargains since.
hi brett, your point taken on board about palm court and what do people expect for the money. we actually stayed there a few years ago and had i looked at a site like h/t wouldnt have entertained going there. as it was. we saw the ad in a daily paper, phoned up and enquired and was told how wonderful it was and how it had many more features than most 4 star hotels. i expect you are going to say i was a bit naive, but nevertheless we believed them, went there and found out we were lied too. so you see it wasn't the cost but the fact that they gave it such a glowing report. i know they are not going to turn round and say it was a dump etc, but they should have not said how fantastic it was there. i'm sure if this happened over here, the trading standards office could have been involved for false representation.
now, if we want to stay anywhere, i look it up on here first and get all genned up, and so far we have not had another experience like the palm court.
bye - dotty
I'm well travelled and I have to say the only place I've ever been to that even approached the Palm Court was a dump called the Soviva in Tunisia. I do agree with you that you shouldn't spend your hols in the hotel and as I've always said as you also have you get what you pay for, but there is something wrong with a hotel that is supposed to be a three star standard being much below that in my opinion. I think that folks in the UK are misled by this star rating since they expect it to be better than it actually is!
By the way we enjoyed Crete. Was some years ago now but will revisit sometime - and tackle the Gorge of Samaria this time,
Trev
OK Palm Court ain't all that. The trouble with "Star Ratings" is that each country is different and "Four Star" in England is top of the range, in Albania it's a shed in a field... Horses for courses and all that!
