My friend and I were thinking about going to Albufeira in September for 2-weeks. Does anyone know the best area to stay that would be close to the restaurants, bars and not too far from the beach?
Can anyone recommend any self-catering apartments?
Also does anyone know if Faro airport is far from the resort itself and how much it might cost in a taxi?
Apologies for all the questions but this website has never let me down on giving out great information!

Goodevening. I am currently in the Clube Praia da Oura accomodation. I would recommend Albufeira, which is a 30min drive by coach from Faro. It is suitable for all ages, weather is always warm, friendly locals etc etc.
It sounds like you're not hiring a car and want to be within walking distance of eateries, bars and the beach. Albufeira is a large resort and it might help you to look at the map on Albufeira.com http://www.albufeira.com/map/city/default.asp. Click over to the left (westwards) you'll see the new Marina and the old harbour, then going towards the right (eastwards) you'll go over the headland (Cerro Grande) and across to the Old Town. Keep clicking left and you'll see The Strip marked in pink! To give you an idea of the scale, it would take about 20 minutes to half an hour to walk from the Strip to the Old Town. There are plenty of places to stay in all these areas, and if you can find out the addresses you can easily find the streets on this map using the box below. Taxis are plentiful and quite cheap (only a few euros right across town), and there's a little tourist train which runs between the Strip and the Old Town all day and half the night. Most people who like the Strip also like to visit the Old Town at night - but it doesn't always work the other way round!
The beaches in Albufeira are good, and wherever you stay you won't be more than 15-20 minutes from the sea.
As Chris said, it takes about 30 minutes to drive from Faro airport and the cost of a taxi is about 30-35 euros. Clube Praia da Oura is right on the beach but close to the southern end of the Strip so you could start looking there! It is a daunting task because there is just so much on offer in terms of self-catering apartments. Have you looked at the Hotel Reviews and Private Rentals on this website? You could also try TripAdvisor and Holidays Uncovered.
It should be lovely in September - still hot enough for long days on the beach and plenty going on at night but not as crowded as August.
finding somewhere!
