Hi everyone, I was hoping that someone maybe based in Malta / Ghawdex could tell me what kind of things happen at Easter that would be worth visiting and where they occur and on which days, also on Good Friday and Easter Sunday do bars and restaurants stay open ? and do the buss'es continue to run as normal ?, all help much appreciated.
Caw for now

I have been to the procession that is held in Mosta on Good Friday and would recommend it. It is a sight to be seen. It was a fantastic day out full of Maltese character. The bars and restaurants remained open.
Hi M&N, thanks for your reply, is it the Mosta good friday peocession that they have fireworks ?, I seem to remember reading a letter in the times about it sometime as someone had written in to say that he didn't think fireworks appropriate at easter.
I don't remember there being any fireworks we were there for most of the day and left around 6pm so there may have been some later that evening. The procession is amazing with some walking barefoot with heavy chains around their ankles. I believe they actually pay for this privalage although I have heard that local people that have been up before their courts can plead leniency on the grounds that they will walk barefoot.
Hi Guys, well we went and now we are back, we flew last wednesday with Air Malta and apart from an hours delay they were fine as normal, the weather was fabulous all the time we were there, it was shorts and t-shirts the whole time except for when we had a shower of course, as always we expereienced some fabulous things, even though we only had four full days to fill we still managed to visit Dingli, Rabat, Xemxija, Marsascala, Birgu, Mgarr, Golden Bay, Qrendi, Zurrieq, Marsaxlokk, Mosta, Valletta a few times and saw the Rxoxt in Gzira where they parade through the streets on Easter Sunday with a brass band and the statue of Christ Risen and they actually run with the statue up hill and then rotate him to show that he is alive, we also did a dghajser ride across Grand Harbour, and attended Good Friday Mass in Knisja Ta Geizu in Valletta, the bars and restaurants of Gzira, St Juliens, and Sliema were as good as ever, we ate in Il-Merill 3 nights out of 4 (closed on Sundays) and the food was absolutely fantastic each time, we had lovely bragiolis, fenek, pasta and steaks and thoroughly enjoyed it, it is always great to see Vince and Mary and all the team in Il-Merill they are all so friendly and welcoming, we also spent some time in Tony's bar and it was also good to see Mark Galea and have a chat, so all in all it was a great break, if any of you have any doubts about doing 5 nights in Malta don't worry it is more than worth it where in the uk can you get to in 3 hours ?, looking forward now to our next one when we will be doing 8 nights in Sliema, roll on early june.
