We normally go end of may and is usually open then, at that time you may still be able to see snow on the mountains !!!

most of the shops tavernas etc will try to open in April. the rest in May. depending when in May it might be busy or not. weather should be ok and as locker said you might get to see the snow. i remember years that it rained in May, once in August, but also i remember heat waves in May.
In other words you can never be sure. the general idea is that it should be ok for sunbathing etc. So its up to you to give a go or not.

Went May, 2 years ago and the weather was excellent but you need a light jacket for the evenings, the only thing was the day we came away it was bouncing off the floor the rain, so it is hit and miss. But more liable to be nice.

We went in May 2 years ago. It was lovely - all the wild flowers were out, the wild herbs (sage and rosemary and thyme) smelt wonderful and everywhere was clean and fresh! Definitely recommended - though the sea will be too cool for swimming in unless you like it bracing!

Wow! I thank everyone so much for all your input!

The only reason that I may decide to wait until June is because of the snow topped mountains. It may sound stupid, but I'm currently in Oslo Norway, navigating my way through the city while having muddy, dirty city snow up to my waist, not to mention that my car's been stuck in snow for two weeks. Mountains abound here in Norway with endless snow, so everyday I dream about the Med Sun. No more snow for me - not even scenic snow topped mountains!

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time for my post - your feedback has been most helpful.

This forum is great!

Hi there,

We were in Hersonissos the middle 2 weeks in May last year and it was gorgeous, the temp was early 30's everyday and not a cloud in sight!! Deborah we stayed in the Bellino too, had an absolute brilliant time.......if there happened to be 3 rather giggly girls staying there it was probably us!! we hired a jeep and drove down to Ag Nic a good few of the days and everything seemed opened and busy, found some really nice beaches just outside it! Also while we were there The World Cruise Ship docked it was amazing looking and the place was buzzing !!

I'd really advise to go in May it was perfect!! going back this year the last week in may first week in June !

May will be fine. Weather can be quirky so be prepared for cloudy and maybe wet days. Might not be needed but you'll be ready.

Most things , restaurants etc will be open - the locals eat out too! Things will be quieter but the scenery will be more colourful, plants etc before the sun burns them off!

You will love it!
