seems to me that alykanas seems a bit more upmarket, kalamaki fairly quiet but close enough to laganas and laganas is extra lively but no doubt pockets of quiter bars but little greek about it, what about tsilivi?

Unless you want to stay awake all night avoid Laganas!!

Dear Pargaluvva,

Don't do it at all, we went to Alykanas 5 years ago expecting it to be nice and quiet.... it was not. Sky sports bars, karoke bars and bland international cuisine, no traditional greek taverna's at all. The beach is not up to much either and the bus service is'nt great, so if you don't want to feel isolated you will have ti hire a car. We did that and travelled to laganas and other such delightful areas and thanked our lucky stars we were not there.
It is the only greek island we have been to where we definetely would not go back to. The airport is enough to put you off for a start.
Stick with Parga, Stoupa, Lesbos, Samos, Kefalonia or Skiathos.

Hi Rhombus. I've just sent you a message on another thread. We decided to go for Kefalonia because we got a good deal. I have beeen to all the places you mention except for Samos (one of the reasons being midweek flights  ) We are back to Parga in August (third time). Kefalonia was my favourite Greek place till we discovered Parga. My hubby is delighted that we are not going to Zante but I've said we might get there for the day just so I can see for myself.
