The beach is OK, nothing more than that. 5 years ago they were chaging 6 euro for an umbrella and 2 chairs. Last year in Skiathos it was 8 for the same thing, do not be suprised if it is 9-10 this summer. It is scandalous how much the prices have increased on some islands.

I agree the cost of sunbeds is disgusting. Why not do as we do and buy cheap airbeds and use them you can always leave them behind or deflate them and bring them back. Saves a fortune over a two week break.

Sunbeds!!!! Brochure pictures with rows of sunbeds puts me right off! Theyre placed a few feet apart and by the time beds are moved about to follow sun/shade,before you know it your rubbing bare shoulders with complete stangers!! Now place a rush mat on the sand with a fluffy towel on top,an unbrella and your personel space is respected!! Its much cheaper and you can doze off without being disturbed by said stranger snoring, burping,breathing in their fag smoke or any other unmentionables!!!Crikey,I need a holiday!!

I agree, but the only disadvantage with the towel on the sand is the giant ants that invade every 5 minutes. On Skiathos last year, Maratha beach was swarming with the b******s. What I object to was that whatever the time of the day, the amount for the bed was the same 8 Euro's. It could be 4pm in the afternoon, you will only be there for 2 hrs max, 8 Euro's. They have had their money possibly 2/3 times in the day. No negotiation.
Never used to be like that. gives a good living though. The family hiring beds on a part of Troulos beach were seen eating the same evening in the most expensive taverna in Koukounaries, The Village. I have to say that it is the best taverna in Koukounaries, by far.

I must admit we have never been unlucky enough to stay anywhere where we have been invaded by ants on the beach, so I guess we will be packing our air beds again this year and trusting to luck. Only 5 weeks to go and then its Zante here we come.

Hi Rhombus,How to deal with giant ants!!On one beach they were so big I was hand feeding the blighters with crisps!!Trick 1,spray insect repellant round the edge of your towel or 2.leave little piles of broken crisps away from your spot. Any other tips greatfully received,personally I'd rather do battle with these fellas than the sunbed bandits!!! DL
