Hi, I few weeks ago I wrote to say that my daughter's family were taken off the flight because her son had had chickenpox and they did not have a
doctor's note to say he was not infectious anymore. Well the outcome of this all has turned out well. The insurance company has paid up really quickly in full minus the £100 excess, they managed to get a late deal two days later cheaper so even with the excess out they never lost any money. On the flight they took two days later the spots were not even mentioned even though she had a doctor's note it was not asked for. The only people they had any problem with were First Choice who do not reply to any comunication and were no help at all. Med Hotels and their insurance company Direct Insurance were great.
That's really good news lady, I'm glad they eventually had a great holiday and some money back too.
Great news - glad they got a good result
Dont mean to be a killjoy but why were they trying to travel with a child who had chickenpox.
Do they not realise that they in the flying environment all types of illnessess are more infectius.
My son who was 3 got the chicken pox 5 weeks before we went on our 1st family holiday ever. I checked and re-checked that it was OK for him to fly. All of the spots had disapeared apart from the ones that he kept scratching and still to this day has scars from.
If my child did not have chickenpox already and someone flew with their child who had and he got chickenpox as a resuly which could mean that we would not be able to travel back from our destination at the expected date (as well as a ruined holiday with a sick child you we would not be able to let mingle with other kids) I would be very upset.
So for God's sake if your kid had chickenpox be responsible and do not even try to attempt to fly for the sake of others especially pregant women who may not have had the chickenpox themselves

We already went over all that.

C&S if you'd read the whole thread you'd have seen that the little one was was at the stage when the spots had crusted over and had fallen off leaving marks where the spots had been and was therefore totally not infectious.
I agree with your sentiments totally and cannot understand why anyone would puttheir child through a holiday in the heat with chickenpox or risk the health of others HOWEVER in this particular case the child in question was NOT infectious and simply had the small spots/scars which last for weeks after the scabs have dropped off.
The reason they were taken off the flight lies more with the airline being overly cautious than anything else and we've already been over the fit to fly certificate issue.

My apologies C&S - it's all on a post further down the page with the same title.
I had to cancel our holiday 2 years ago due to my son getting the dreaded pox, but my doctor said once the spots are out they are not contagious anymore its the 10 day incubation period that is contagious prior to the spots appearing.
We cancelled our holiday because my daughter might catch it as the spots appeared exactly 7 days before we were due to fly.
we had all our money refunded via the insurance we had minus the £200 excess so now i take out excess waiver as £200 is alot to lose on a holiday, but we ended up doing on holiday a couple of months later!
So all in all a knightmare but, my daughter still didnt catch it!!!!!!!!!
