Having been to Albufeira for the past two summers, despite thoroughly enjoying it, the group of friends I go away with have decided they want to try somewhere else.
As Albufeira is the only place in Portugal I've been to, could anyone tell me if there's anywhere that can match it for liveliness while retaining the charm and picturesque-ness that Albufeira has in its old town and the strip, either in Portugal or even further afield.
I've been to places like Benidorm and the 18-30 hellholes in the Greek Islands and found Albufeira way better than any of these, while still maintaining a lively nightlife.
Many thanks in advance to anyone that can offer any help, as I'm stumped.
The only place that i think of is Lagos lots of charm and good nightlife altough not as lively as the nightlife you find in Albufeira.
There is nowhere quite like Albufeira!
If you like the liveliness of Albufeira, I think you'd be very disappointed with Lagos - it's much, much quieter with far less in the way of bars.
Have you tried going further afield, we go to albufeira every year but we also go to Turkey and we find it matches it in every aspect. We feel Turkey is like going to Portugal 15 years ago its still not lost its character and is a very friendly country. Check out the Turkey forum for advice on resorts.
Vilamoura is very nice. Not as lively as Albufeira but still gr8 in imho.
Parga on the Greek mainland is a similar sort of place too, very pretty with lots of charm.
Both Nerja and Parga are lively places but not in an over the top 18 - 30's way!
Hello, if you aren't too fussed whether or not you go to Portugal then i would def recommend Ayia Napa in Cyprus. I went there two years ago and had the best holiday ever! It is very lively and the beaches are great. The people are really friendly too. I am glad you said that Albufeira is lively becasue i am going there in 4 weeks!
And yes, Albufeira is pretty unique from what I've seen in that it manages to combine being loud and lively with being picturesque and charming. Drew drop, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.
i to would recomend nerja
