After much deliberation, we have now booked flights from Glasgow to Stansted, then Stansted to Salzburg, for the grand total of £133.44p each which I think is great. We will stay in Salzburg for a day and night, then hire a car and head "for the hills". Soll, Niederau, or Alpbach, please?????????????????

You've probably chosen by now but if you choose the area around Soll then you can buy a walking pass for about £20-30 that entitles you to use all the chairlifts in the area. As you have a car this would be very good value as you could visit Ellmau, Westendorf etc & use lifts from there and do walks from there. The walking is pretty undemanding but very enjoyable.

Ps If you ever want an area to visit that gets hardly any Brits then I would recommend the Bregenzerwald (Western Austria nearest airport is Friedrichshafen- Ryanair from Stansted & then very easy to access by public transport). If you stay more than 3 nights in the area you get a free pass for all the post buses & chairlifts. The walking there is superb.

Also highly recommend the Tannheim which is a bit further east on the German border.

Thanks hullsaddler, yes we have booked for Soll and will get ther on 19th June. I will remember your advice for another time, and will consider it if we book again.

Just returned this evening from a fantastic week in Soll. The place is amazing and the walking is just wonderful. We stayed at the Postwirt hotel and couldn't have asked for better. Place is so much quiter than in the winter, but equally appealing. P.M for any further info.
Will definatly do this holiday again.
