If you search for Turkey and "Winnie the Pooh" in Google, you'll find plenty of disclaimers on this story. For example:-

Turkey's public broadcaster has denied reports that it has banned the popular Walt Disney cartoon "Winnie the Pooh" because one of the main characters in the show is a piglet.

Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) said late Saturday media reports that "Winnie the Pooh" and other cartoons featuring pigs had been barred "are untrue and aim to discredit the institution."

It's another example of urban myth compounded by xenophobia. We were in Turkey on holiday last month and none of the restaurants we visited had any qualms about offering bacon or other pork products.

Exactly, every time we've been to Turkey pork was available on the menu's, and "full English" B'fast (with Bacon/sausage) is available everywhere.

You might well get bacon in tourist resorts... can't see the germans going without their sausages either.... but, the resorts are only part of Turkey.... and what goes on in resorts is not indicative of the rest of the country..... have you ever seen rural turkey, or any big cities there.

Cheap cheap Asda Price and karaoke and breakdancing and British Breakfasts are just tourist gimmicks to get you to spend... why do you think so many workers leave their villages to earn seasonal money... it must be like fish in a barrel!

Yes, I have been out in rural Turkey and it is very different, but without tourism and us lot spending our hard earned dosh on 'full English' etc etc they would be in a different position during the 'season'. I know that all the young Turkish guys flock to the resorts for the summer, then work on building etc out of season (if not doing their stint in the Army of course), this is how it works for them.... and good luck to them.

As far as i can gather Louise he hasn't. Though not sure how this discussion ended up about karaoke & fry ups lol :hmmm

My hubby is muslim, but handles pork on a daily basis in work - And whilst would baulk at the thought of eating it - He gets on with it. Likewise im sure any turk whether from the village or big city would get over their repulsion if it put food on their table/paid the bills

Cheers
