I wondered if anyone could help with following predicament:
I am taking my daughter out to Genova in September as she will be studying in the University for a year and has to find her own apartment.
We will be flying out from Stanstead (only direct flight) with Ryanair. There will probably be 2 maybe 3 of us going with her travelling light as she can have our 20k baggage allowance.
We know how much stuff she took to Warwick last year and are dreading what she wants to take this time (although she has been told to take essentials only on this trip).
What I would like you to help me with is if there is any way to get around paying £5 for each k for over. We are prepared to pay obviously, but can see the bill building up. We have also heard that you have to pay cash at the check-in for excess - is this correct?
I would welcome any ideas solutions and would love to hear from anyone who has or is in the same situation.
I have posted this topic in flights and it was suggested I post here in case you ex pats etc have advice.
Make full use of everyones hand baggage allowance, wear all heavy clothing (you can always take it off later & carry it), hand bags aren't weighed so mine is massive & full, laptops aren't usually included in baggage allowance so can be carried as an extra item, (they don't check it is actually a laptop at check in!). Check the airline rules for carriage of golf clubs - we fly jet 2 - weight allowance 13kgs & £10 charge for carriage - stick a golf club in & anything else u fancy - it's cheaper than excess baggage!
