stay clear of the orlando apartments. Also las pimarades as its situated next to muggers alley.
get a safe and secure hotel with a safe. Just dont take risks, taxis home and stick in groups. Tenerife does have a problem with crime however dont let this ruin your holiday. I had a fab time out there and followed all the safety advice from my rep and hotel. Yes crimes happen every where but the rates are higher than average in PDLA at present. This could be down to the influx in young holiday makers who dont use common sense.
have fun its a great resort
Just to add to my earlier post regarding your fears of crime, and hopefully put them to rest.
As I mentioned we have been travelling two or three times a year to Tenerife for the last 23 years and my two youngest children who are 14 and 16 know the place quite well now. They get on the bus and go to the Water park and other places by themselves now if they want to . Yes they are streetwise (you have to be when you live somewhere that is going downhill fast), but I have less fear of them going to places without us over there than I ever would in the UK.

In regards to your first post i took it as the way it was intended, just a bit of fun - it did make me laugh.
From reading what everyone has said my fears have been put to rest so now im looking forward to going just need to decide where to stay now & when to go.
Just to let you know that the Mare Nostrum, more often than not,has security on the door, and will ask each persons room no. and to see their key as they enter the buildings. The back entrances (off the promenade) have secure gates where you can only enter with a keycard.
Thanks Fiona, i think we will go for one of the Mare Nostrum hotels. Looking around ive found good prices for Cleopatra Palace & Julio Cesar, in your opinion which do you think is the nicest?
Sorry can't really comment too much,as we've only stayed in the Mediterranean Palace, but one certainly looks just as nice as the other. The staff have been really friendly and helpful when we used the facilities at the other Hotels, though. One thing I did notice, when I was sunbathing on the balcony, when we were last there in June was the balconies/terraces at the Julio Cesar didn't get any sun from later in the afternoon (from about 3ish). Not a major thing I know, because you can always use ANY of the swimming pool areas. Although,I have to say that IMO the pool at the Med Palace is the best due to it's size. (really small pools at the others). You'll also get the best view of the sea from the Cleopatra Palace, if you request a sea view room, that would be directly opposite the beach.
P.S.If you do go for the Mare Nostrum ,everything in the area goes quiet and all the lights and everything go down at midnight. There are a couple of bars that stay open into the small hours...if you're looking for that ?? and don't want to walk too far, try Harry's bar at the Safari Commercial Centre or Buda next to the Hotel Tenerife Princess.
I think it's all down to common sense. People tend to be more relaxed on holiday, and tend to let things slip. For instance, I wouldn't walk around Leeds City Centre, where I live, at night with large quantities of cash in an unsecure bag.
Petty crime obviously does go on, but I have always felt safe there. The criminals exploit the relaxed attitude of holiday makers, as any criminal would over in the UK.
just say no the charlie
