I am visting Tenerife in 5 weeks and I love shopping.
I stayed in Palma Mallorca last year and loved it for the Marina/boats, shops and general hustle and bustle.
We always like to take a day trip to the main town/city wherever we go on holiday so we are obviously contemplating Santa Cruz. Therefore am I likely to find a good selection of shops etc and is it worth the trip? We are staying in Los Christianos. Is there a bus service that runs from PDLA direct? Or what is the best way of getting there? (We will go it "alone" i.e dont really want to to an arranged tour with an agent).
thanks!
There are some lovely shops nearer hand, at the Safari Commercial Centre at the Los Cristianos end of PDLA,if you didn't already know.
Anyway,I didn't particularly like Santa Cruz de Tenerife, but that's only my opinion,of course. We went in the hire car and the fact that when we were waiting at the traffic lights, a female tried to open the rear passenger door to get at a Cd player we had lying on the back seat put me off. My husband saw it coming and immediately locked the doors just in time!Sure others will give you a different opinion though,I probably shouldn't have let a bad experience put me off...after all these things happen all over.
we hired a car and travelled up the moterway ourselves and stopped off several times along the way to explore the little villages..
I have to agree with Fiona and Val. We always hire a car when in Tenerife, and always end up stopping in Santa Cruz although only for a drink on our journey back to Costa Adeje/LC. We always end up touring the island but as for stopping off and shopping in Santa Cruz I wouldn't bother. Some great shops more local to LC

We're going to Las Americas on 15th Sept and had decided we must definately go to Santa Cruz this time, however, after reading the comments I'm not sure if the long journey will be worth it now. I'm waiting on a few more comments coming in.
If you want the non-stop bus to Santa Cruz it's the 110, its much quicker and than the 111 which has stops the whole way up, but remember most shops close between 13.30-17.00, enjoy,

We went to Santa Cruz on the bus a couple of years ago,it takes about an hour on the direct service.Get a Bona-Bus card if you go this way they work out cheaper. The bus drops you off a little way from the main shopping area http://www.titsa.com is the site that will give you bus info.
We enjoyed looking round Santa Cruz, we didn't go for the shopping. As other posts have said the shops around the local area are just as good.

yep agreeing with most...... there is more choice in sc.... but generally not a fat lot cheaper, and unless your really picky you will find what you want in la/lc
Do go to make your own mind up, but I felt that Santa Cruz was no where near as nice as Palma.
Have to say that I agree with that,Palma is really lovely in comparison to St.Cruz, in my opinion. Somehow, it just didn't seem as attractive looking. That is ONLY my opinion though.
