There is a bus stop by the aguamarina hotel, I think the buses from here go into mahon, then from mahon to the other places.
Although the bus services are very good it can take a long time to get from one side of the island to the other. We stayed in Menorca in July and I drove from Ciutadella to Fornells in about 40 minutes. We spoke to a couple who had taken 3 hours to get from Calan Bosch, because they had to change buses at Ciutadella and again at Mahon. So you do not need a car but will probably WANT one.
thnx for your comments jeffers. we will take your advice & hire one for a lge: part of our 2 weeks.
Menorca is safe and easy to drive around and you would miss some lovely beaches. Plus it gives you the chance to visit other resorts that you may prefer if you decided to visit Menorca again.
we will be hiring a car from the middle of the 1st. week to the middle of the 2nd. week. using public transport either side of that period. thnx for your reply.
My response was that when I am on holiday all I want to do is relax and the last thing I need is the stress of driving anywhere
However my wife persuaded me to get a car and I can honestly say it was the best holiday we had ever had as a family and it has changed the way we holiday full stop
We spent two weeks visiting different beaches, resorts, restaurants etc and it was just so so easy to get to places
As most of you know one motorway down the middle of the island with all the resorts leading from it, little traffic and normally quite easy to park
Compared to when we used to just stay in one resort and sit round the pool all day the two weeks with a car seemed to last forever but in a good way !!
We did so many different things and had such a great time - we are doing the same thing again this year and cannot wait
So in answer to your question - you probably do not need a car but based on our experience if you hire one your holiday in Menorca will improve dramatically
I use websites like this to plan the best places to go and visit etc - you really can benefit from the advice of real holidaymakers and residents of the island and cherry pick where to go and where to eat etc
thanks for your reply, we appreciate your valid comments.
We have always hired a car, but then we always do anywhere we go - to get out and have a look at different places... definitely worth it for three / four days - any more and you probably would be revisiting places!

try this site for places to visit!!
We never repeated anywhere in 7 days with a car!
The old neolithic ruins, caves, hidden coves, hypermarkets, cheese, leather and gin factory shops, beaches, towns and cities, Restaurants, Monte Toro......
Just take a look at the map to see all the sites and beaches, easily more than enough to keep you busy/ relaxed.
Also we went in april/may and had a bit of iffy weather, if you do ( hope you don't) have that you'll be able to get out and about.
