It really depends on what you want from your holiday. I've been to Hisaronu once, five or six years ago and didn't like it very much and I now own a villa in Kalkan, so I am obviously biased! Hisaronu is OK if you want "British" pubs. Kalkan is a lot quieter with much better restaurants and no loud nightclubs. Kalkan has very steep roads up from the harbour, so you need to be reasonably fit!

Hi,

I think both these towns are quite different, so I am surprised you ended up chosing between these. I visited Kalkan while on a gulet trip and it seemed a bit too quiet. It was on my list of possible holiday choices before I went, as I have heard so many people love it. The town is spread over very steep hillside so lots of hot tiring walks. There was no where near as many bars restaurants shops that you will find in Hisaronu. The harbour is pretty but theres no real beach, just a narrow strip for sunbathing. I enjoyed our visit but don`t think I`d like to stay for longer.
Hisaronu on the other hand is very lively, you can have a really good night out. Its not a `Benidorm` mind you and there are no louts but it does have some lively bars, great restaurants a,d Olu Deniz beach it just a dolmus away. Personally we always stay in Oly Deniz which is just FAB (cross between the two places in fact).

Thank you for your replies, I fancied Kalkan as it says in its description that it is unspoilt and less hassle - but now I think from your replies, the children would prefer Hisaronu and with Olu Deniz being close by, we can have the best of both worlds - my mind is made up now - Hisaronu it is.

Cheers - heres to holiday 2007!!

I also really fancied Kalkan having read up on it it seemed like a place me and my husband would love. However having an 11 and 13 year old we settled on Olu Deniz as we thought they would be bored in Kalkan  .

We went on to have a great holiday in Olu D :D. I think it's a resort that suits many people. Perhaps we will get to Kalkan in a few years time when we are back to holidaying on our own.

We have stayed in both places, loved them, but think if you have children you had best go some were lively as they will soon get fed up in Kalkan.
It is very beautiful, we stayed in a pension, they could not do enough for us, had a great authentic Turkish meal with the family, once they realized we were sociable they really made us feel at home.
It was a great xperience best saved for when your kids have grown and you can go alone for romantic holiday.
