We spent 04/05 in Candolim. Christmas Day was spent at Spotty's shack at the bottom of the Beach Road, Chilled out all day on the beach, lunch was Spotty's version of a traditional British Christmas meal, with a few local variation's, my abiding memory was sitting there with the sand between my toe's chewing on a chicken drumstick(I think it was chicken). New Year's Eve we found most of the restaurants were quite empty as everybody seemed to have booked Gala Dinners or were at parties, but come midnight everyone was on the beach for impromptu firework displays.......Regards..Barney
Walked down to breakfast (Haathi Mahal) to be met in reception by a 7 stone weakling dressed in a Santa costume stuffed with pillows. He was meant to arrive on an elephant, but the elephant was apparently doublebooked...so his mate was wearing an elephant costume and running about pretending to blow his trunk
It was surreal, and when we'd finished laughing...we appreciated the thought.
There was a compulsory banquet at night, with obligatory awful band, and elephant man appeared again to dance round the tables. Memorable..
We are stopping at a small guest house without an attached restaurant and was wondering what happens in the resort in the way of celebrations, partys etc?
sorry to say this but i found xmas day very boreing!! i have been twice over xmas and new year and xmas day was so quite and i had built myself up to have a great time but it was just simalar to any other day only with fireworks, i found new year a bit more livelyer but even that was not what i had expected, i wouldnt spend the xtra to go at this time any more, sorry
Been to Kerala over Christmas and New Year. Everything carries on pretty much as normal, the predominantly Christian fishermen get the day off and are absolutely legless by 11am! New Year involved thousands of Indian tourists arriving from far and wide followed by dodgy fireworks on the beach. Going anywhere for Xmas where it's sunny beats the darkness and damp of the UK.
Will there be beach shacks, restaurants open, we are booked into a guest house that does not have a restaurant attached. will there be any partys going on?
party atmospheire every were fireworks, carol singers, father xmas, xmas trees on the beach. every thing open as normal, you will love it.
we had our xmas dinner at the sea shell, beautifull, wish i was their again this xmas and new year.
andy
im booked to go in xmas newyear and was wondering what is a gala meal as thats what is included where im staying (colonia santa maria) baga.my guess its a xmas dinner, lol
Usually a Gala meal is an evening meal, we had the same when we were in Cyprus, an evening Christmas dinner, with a group, fireworks etc etc
I have already asked questions about this time of year. I fly out Xmas eve and new years eve sounds fanatastic at candolim beach but expect prices to rise during this week from what i have read. See you there
Goan Mad - I will also be in Candolim on Christmas Day, have not got a clue where we'll be going for Christmas Dinner etc as yet!
Ate a tandoori chicken sizzler on the beach on Xmas day - fantastic.
We had gala meal over Xmas and New Year - our hotel put a buffet on Xmas eve and NY eve.
Only thing I did not like over the Xmas period was the traffic as you literally could not get anywhere as gridlocked.
This lasted for about 3 days over New Year and then quietened off again.
