Hi can't speak for the other resorts but have been to Vilamoura 3 times, twice to Marinotel.

Can highly recommend the restaurants as there is something for everyone, expensive on the marina and not so expensive behind the marina. It is not your 18-30 resort and if you just like a nice meal and drinks then this would be the resort for you, no loud music unless you want to visit the nightclub, oh and there is a real nice irish bar behind the marina.

Someone will probably help you with the other resorts.

Don't know about the 5 star bit as usually rent a villa but just about every resort has excellent restaurants and beautiful beaches. We usually go to the Albufeira area/Guia/Vale de Para but are very tempted by Lagos or even Vilamoura.

Spoiled for choice really.

Hi polar we went to the algarve last year in june for the very first time.Living with a man who once he finds a nice place is hard to move...i nagged him to try somewhere else other than tenerife. He loved Albufiera. We stayed at hotel montechoro. I think its a 4 star but the staff rooms and meals are excellent. The rooftop restuarant is onr of the best. We went back to same hotel this year again in june.Had an excellent week and on saturday we are off back to hotel montechoro again. Cant wait to get back. Its at the top of the strip but its only a taxi ride to the old town which we love at nights. The beach at praia de ora is brilliant and hotel has free bus ..if you want it.After 27 visits to Tenerife i now think im on the same course with albufiera. hahah

Polar,

Look at http://www.hotelmontechoro.pt/.

Have a look around as there are some other good hotels around. I think why not many people replied is because there are not a lot of 5 star hotels in the algarve as far as I am aware. Its very much an apartment and villa culture from what I have seen. There are good quality hotels out there though. I believe there are quite a few nice hotels in Vilamoura from other posts on this site. May be worth doing a search under Vilamoura??

I believe the Sol E Mar is quite good and is right on the beach and very much in the heart of Albufeira Old Town.

Happy hunting.

Hi polar sorry i havent been around last few days..been packing for my trip to the algarve..hahah. Sorry i havent got any pics to show you but by saturday evening i may well have some when i arrive. Cant wait to get back again. Someone mentioned villamoura. We went for the day but i have to say it didnt impress me. Yeah there are loads of classy hotles and designer guys and gals on their yachts but im afraid thats not my scene. Its albufiera for me at moment. I plan to visit lagos this trip heard so much about it. Just getting hubby to venture anywhere is quite an ordeal. Will post a revue when i get back. Oh forgot to say the white snagria is to die for......
