Do you mean the Ramla Bay Resort in Marfa? This is rated 3* but I would say that it is pretty remote and the photographs I've seen are very flattering to say the least. However I think it has recently been refurbished and I have heard some good reports about it. I think there are also one or two other hotels nearby in Marfa - the Barcelo Riviera rings a bell.

There are very few other restaurants etc nearby and the nearest settlement of any size would be Mellieha about 3km away which has a good beach and many facilities. I think that you would almost definitely need to hire a car in order to get the most out of your stay in Malta.

Hope this helps

Thanks Susan, that was a help. I'm not keen on hiring a car as I like to use public transport. If anybody has experience of another suitable location I'd be grateful thanks. We are going to a wedding in St Julien but don't necessarily have to be too close to there.

Hi again, I think it really depends on the sort of place you like. There is Mellieha itself, Bugibba or Qawra. I often think that Qawra and Bugibba are a bit of a circus particularly in the summer months - lots of bars, restaurants and tacky tourist shops.

The advantage of Mellieha is that it has an enormous beach and is a bit more interesting than the other two places. You've got Popeye Village nearby and can probably get a bus easily to Golden Bay on the other side of the island if you want some variety.

I know very little about hotels in these places and this is just my personal opinion, although I'm sure other people will chip in with some advice too.

There is a Mellieha village website here

http://www.mellieha.com/

It might be of some help.

There is a nice link to a live web cam on that web page. It shows Mellieha Square/Church with the Island of Comino in the background. 8)
